Should the CFL just scrap the 2020 season?
« on: July 27, 2020, 10:13:20 am »

I know they're talking about a bubble situation, but with some high profile players opting out, and a potential second wave of COVID-19, might it be better to just wash the season?

Yeah... I don't know how it's going to work given the $ situation and so much importance on the American players who in all honesty do not gain much from leaving their cities to play 6 games for peanuts.

If I'm a player I wouldn't play for anything less than half my salary. It doesn't make sense for American players who make $65,000 regularly to be taking home a mere ~$10,000 USD after conversion and taxes. That being said, as a fan I would be heartbroken to not see CFL football this year.

If anything the pandemic has brought to light how much the CFL was in trouble before all this hit. A thorough review of the CFL's financial practices is needed before kickoff 2021.

I do think there is still a possibility that the CFL could play. Looking at other leagues within Canada the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) has already started play in St. Catharines, Ontario while the Canadian Premier League (CPL) will play in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on August 13.

It's just so late already.. I mean, they would need a full training camp still, plus exhibition games. While playing deep into November might be okay in Southern Ontario/BC, I can't imagine playing into December in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Regina, Calgary.
