And these are the odds for Villanova vs Delaware:
Villanova to Win on Spread (-15.5) @ -110
We have Villanova pegged as one of our favorites to make it to the Final Four, so we clearly expect them to be convincing in the first round against the Fightin' Blue Hens, whoa are back to the Big Dance after a while and the same fate awaits them as then – an early, first round exit against one of the better teams in the country.
With all due respect to Delaware, who come into the tournament after winning the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, the Wildcats are simply on another level and that's why the spread in this game seems to be very high. But don't let that fool you or scare you – Villanova is more than capable of covering that spread and we expect them to do so.
Villanova Wildcats are one of the best shooting teams in the entire country and they enter this game with a streak of nine games in which they scored eight or more threes. But their defense is also respectable – in fact, they were top in the Big East when it comes to scoring defense as well. Led by the experienced guard Collin Gillespie, a two-time Big 12 Player of the Year who was with the team back in 2018 when the Wildcats won the NCAA Championship, Villanova clearly has plenty of experience on their side.
Under 134.5 Total Points @ -110
As we mentioned before, Villanova has a very good defense and Delaware will feel their full strength in this game. On top of that, Delaware is only 151st in threes made per game, so don't expect them to shoot well against the Wildcats who are known for defending the three-point line at a high rate.
Yes, the Fightin' Blue Hens have Jameer Nelson Jr. who is a son of the former NBA player Jameer Nelson. But despite undeniable talents of Nelson Jr. and a couple of other guards on the Delaware team, we don't see where they can find enough ways to score against the Wildcats who are also solid in defending the paint.
Lastly, it is worth mentioning that Delaware is ninth in the country in adjusted offensive efficiency, which is pretty impressive, especially considering the fact that they don't make a lot of threes. But the team is also 345th in adjusted pace and that is bound to affect their potential scoring output. So, all things considered, we don't see this game going over 134.5 total points.
Villanova Over 74.5 Total Points @ -115
While we expect the total points to under the defined line, that's mostly due to our expectations from Delaware and we can see Villanova going over 74.5 total points in this game. Their guard trio Collin Gillespie, Justin Moore, and Caleb Daniels is very gifted offensively and we can see all of them making their contribution to Villanova's scoring.
Given the previously mentioned fact that the Wildcats are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the tournament, it's not hard to see why we expect them to score 75 or more points. Furthermore, Delaware's adjusted defense is only 203rd in the country, so the Wildcats will have a lot of room to operate on the offensive end.
