Memphis Grizzlies vs. Golden State Warriors Game 3 Preview
Memphis has been a difficult opponent for the Warriors this season. Memphis is now 4-2 against the Warriors, though the team’s lack of scoring outside of Ja Morant is concerning. Morant has also made nine threes in the last two games, which is uncharacteristic of his game. He’ll have to prove he can still score big on the road after not doing so in the Minnesota series in the first round.
Part of the reason Morant did not have to score much in that one was the dominance of Desmond Bane from three. But Bane has been ice cold in this series and does not look 100%. Interestingly enough, Klay Thompson is Golden State’s No. 2 player after Steph Curry and he also has had a lousy series so far. Perhaps the key to this series will be which No. 2 breaks out of his slump faster: Bane or Thompson. They are the only two players in NBA history to make at least seven threes in consecutive playoff games in the same postseason.
The Warriors are 18-4 when holding opponents under 41% shooting this season, but half of the losses are now to Memphis. Still, it does not feel likely that the Grizzlies can continue having success in this series if Morant is the only player breaking 15 points. It also seems likely that the Warriors will not have their second-worst three-point shooting game of the season (7-for-38) like they did in Game 2.
