Golden State Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks Game 3 Preview
While the Mavericks led 72-58 at halftime of Game 2 in Golden State behind Luka Doncic’s 24 early points, there were signs that they could be in danger in the second half.
- Dallas shot 15-of-27 (55.6%) from three in the first half, an unsustainable rate that would have put them on pace for a record 30 made threes in a game.
- Dallas shot 6-of-18 (33.3%) from three in the second half, including a brutal 2-for-13 mark in the third quarter when the Warriors came back.
- The Warriors were not shooting badly at all, making 51.2% of their shots in the first half and scoring 58 points despite 10 turnovers.
- In the second half, the Warriors shot 61.0% and had just three more turnovers. They outscored Dallas 25-13 in the third quarter and took the lead for good with Steph Curry on the bench to start the final quarter.
The Mavericks are going to have to figure out how to attack the Warriors for easier baskets (layups and dunks) the way the Warriors are doing so to the Dallas defense. It was a good sign that Doncic had a big game with 42 points after having arguably his worst playoff game to start the series. Jalen Brunson also showed up with 31 points, and Reggie Bullock made six threes. But recent hero Spencer Dinwiddie had just four points on six shots. He is someone Doncic will have to get more involved at home in Game 3 if you expect reasonable regression from Brunson and Bullock.
The Warriors are in great shape going into Game 3, but Dallas has not lost three in a row since early December. Golden State has not been impressive on the road this postseason, so this series still has a chance to be even after Game 4.
