The Nuggets tied for the best record in the Western Conference. The season ended in frustration after blowing a 20-point lead in Game 7 of the semifinals to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Maybe the Nuggets just had a bad game. His performance fluctuated last season. With the departure of key defender <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/caldwke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kentavious Caldwell-Pope<\/a> in free agency, the pressure is on Murray to step up as the reliable second option. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/braunch01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christian Braun<\/a> is expected to help fill Caldwell-Pope\u2019s role, but his offensive game remains inconsistent. The hottest name from Denver Nuggets media day, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/westbru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russell Westbrook<\/a>, will look to add veteran experience, though he&#8217;s no longer the dominant player he once was.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Denver\u2019s core remains strong, and head coach <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/coaches\/malonmi99c.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Malone<\/a> is one of the best in the league. For the Nuggets to exceed their projected win total and contend for a title, they\u2019ll need Murray to return to the best version of himself and the other starters to step up and support Jokic. With Jokic leading the way, a successful regular season and deep playoff run are within reach, but only if the supporting cast can rise to the challenge.
