Former NBA superstars <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/garneke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Garnett<\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/piercpa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Pierce<\/a> tackled the subject of current NBA superstars during their recent podcast episode. Of all the players listed on their list, Embiid was surprisingly left off. Of course, Embiid is a superstar, forgotten as he was.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Joel Embiid Superstar Status:\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Ex-Celtics Champions Nix Center<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Even if Forgotten, <\/strong><strong>Joel Embiid is a Superstar<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is Embiid a superstar? By all means, naturally. It\u2019s unclear if the two former Boston Celtics champions meant to veto Embiid from their list of current NBA superstars or unconsciously left him out. Garnett and Pierce should revisit the conversation though and give Embiid his flowers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In a recent episode of\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PL6fkKAMsPY-EvArvzzG1RGZHfpnRpo7iV\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ticket &amp; The Truth \/ KG Certified<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/PXNR_nQHeSI?si=Kab973xguCEYOIzF&amp;t=1953\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Garnett and Pierce engaged in<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0an NBA superstar back-and-forth about who&#8217;s in and who&#8217;s out. Surprisingly, 76ers &#8220;superstar&#8221; Joel Embiid was nowhere to be found among the handful of names they named. Garnett seemingly failed to comprehend what a &#8220;superstar&#8221; is, while Pierce, on the other hand, was locked in.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cYou got Joker, Greek Freak \u2026 Tatum\u2019s in the Superstar category. So that\u2019s three. Then you got Curry, LeBron, Durant \u2013 that\u2019s six. For sure, the OG\u2019s is the superstars,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Pierce says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks to Pierce\u2019s awareness, he saved Garnett from drowning here. As more names were rattled off, KG began to catch on, and just like that, ten current superstars were born in the NBA. By the time they ended on <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wembavi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victor Wembanyama<\/a>, the NBA had upwards of 16 superstars in the league today\u2014what a development. You gotta give it to Garnett and Pierce; they entertain. However, the interesting element of this conversation is whom the former Celtics didn\u2019t mention: Joel Embiid.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Embiid is in Superstar Echelon <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Considering KG\u2019s temporary aloofness and Pierce taking control of the situation, there\u2019s no blame to cast for leaving a superstar like Embiid off their list. A simple mistake, I\u2019m sure. However, forgotten in this manner, Embiid cannot be.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Put aside the injuries Embiid endured from the get-go of his NBA career, and consider everything else. Embiid might be the best center in the league. Some would argue <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jokicni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nikola Jokic<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Embiid in the paint is as unstoppable as it gets, and very few contemporaries in the league can match him. Jokic, of course, is one said contemporary. Embiid is challenging to guard because he\u2019s a triple threat. He\u2019s outstanding in the paint (scoring and rebounding), mid-range, and a good three-point shooter. He is holding steady at 50.4% from the field for his career. As for his three-point abilities, last season was his best connecting on 38.8% from beyond the arc, and for his career, 34.1%\u2014not too bad for a seven-foot, 280-pound center, all things considered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Embiid is as dominant as it gets. An injury-ravaged career has still accumulated the following: seven-time All-Star, two-time Scoring Champ, five-time <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/09\/17\/king-james-can-extend-all-nba-record-in-22nd-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">All-NBA<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, three-time All-Defensive, an All-Rookie Team member, and the 2022-23 <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/09\/21\/nba-mavs-european-basketball-legend-vlade-divac-key-luka-doncic-mvp\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">MVP<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. If those honors don&#8217;t culminate in NBA superstar status, something is afoot.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Injuries Shouldn\u2019t Detract<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You have to feel for a superstar like Embiid after numerous injuries have hindered him personally, physically, and the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/09\/20\/philadelphia-76ers-ink-extension-with-joel-embiid-what-it-means-going-forward\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Philadelphia 76ers<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> as a franchise. Many of their past playoff hopes were dashed because Embiid was lingering on an existing injury or was flat-out missing games. Embiid is often knocked for failing to take the 76ers on a deep playoff run. It&#8217;s not entirely on his shoulders though.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The 76ers are in a<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> primed position to make one of those allusive deep playoff runs this season. The trio of Embiid, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/georgpa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul George<\/a>, and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/maxeyty01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tyrese Maxey<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0is a formidable mix to compete and contend in the East and possibly further into the NBA Finals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joel Embiid is a superstar, unquestionably.
