Last season, Gardner appeared in 18 games in the G League. In those games, he averaged 7.9 points and 5.4 rebounds. Gardner also shot 53.8% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc.<\/p>\n<p>The Nets&#8217; signing of Gardner comes a day after the team signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/baileam01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-09-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amari Bailey<\/a> to an <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/09\/20\/brooklyn-nets-sign-2023-charlotte-hornets-draft-pick\/\" target=\"_self\">Exhibit 10 contract as well<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Brooklyn Nets Sign New York Native to Training Camp Deal<\/h2>\n<h3>Where the Nets Stand After Signing Patrick Gardner<\/h3>\n<p>Last season, the Nets finished with a 32-50 record and earned the No. 11 seed in the East. This was their worst record since the 2017-18 season, which also happened to be the last time they missed the playoffs before last season. As the team approaches the 2024-25 season, there is not much optimism they will return to the playoffs just yet. This sentiment, most notably, comes off the heels of the team trading <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bridgmi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-09-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mikal Bridges<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/08\/20\/mikal-bridges-fits-the-knicks-perfectly\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Knicks<\/a> this summer.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite the team&#8217;s roster status, they are not considering next season a rebuilding year. In July, Nets wing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/thomaca02.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-09-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cam Thomas<\/a> spoke about maintaining <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/07\/18\/brooklyn-nets-rising-star-speaks-about-possible-extension-cam-thomas\/\" target=\"_self\">high expectations for the team<\/a> next season.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe\u2019re not going to treat this as a rebuild as people say we\u2019re doing. We\u2019re going to go out there and compete and try to win every game. If we lose, we lose. We\u2019re not going to throw games. We\u2019re going to compete hard. It\u2019s going to be entertaining and exciting with good, young Nets basketball. I can\u2019t wait to see it,&#8221; Thomas said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Regardless, it will be difficult for the Nets to make a postseason run next year. They finished 11th in the conference last season and got worse on paper. There is a lot to look forward to in Brooklyn. However, a playoff appearance seems like a pipe dream at this point.<\/p>\n<h3>The Nets&#8217; Offseason Recap<\/h3>\n<p>Brooklyn&#8217;s biggest move of the offseason was moving on from Bridges. However, it is far from the only move they made. The team acquired <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bogdabo02.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-09-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bojan Bogdanovic<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/miltosh01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-09-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shake Milton<\/a> as part of the trade. Additionally, they acquired <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/willizi02.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-09-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ziaire Williams<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/08\/25\/memphis-grizzlies-off-season-a-review-to-date\/\" target=\"_self\">Memphis Grizzlies<\/a> this offseason as well. Furthermore, the team re-signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/claxtni01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-09-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nic Claxton<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/johnske07.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-09-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keon Johnson<\/a> in the offseason. On the flip side, they lost free agent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/walkelo01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-09-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lonnie Walker<\/a> IV, who recently signed with the Boston Celtics.<\/p>\n<p>The team still has some free agents on the market, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/smithde03.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-09-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dennis Smith<\/a> Jr. and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gilyaja01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-09-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacob Gilyard<\/a>. At this stage, there are no updates regarding the status of those players.
