With this signing, the Hawks will now have 21 players under contract heading into training camp, the maximum number allowed. However, competition will be fierce. The Hawks currently have 15 on standard contracts and three players on two-way contracts. In order for him to land either a standard or a hybrid deal, Atlanta would have to waive or trade a player.<\/p>\n<h2>Hawks Sign Former Magic Wing Kevon Harris To Final Training Camp Spot<\/h2>\n<p>Fortunately for Harris, Atlanta is in a state of flux, with a front office willing to move anyone but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/johnsja05.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jalen Johnson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If Hawks general manager Landry Fields deems it to be the best move for his team, he could make room for Harris. In that event, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wallake01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keaton Wallace<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/barlodo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dominick Barlow<\/a> may be deemed their most expendable players. Not only are they on two-way contracts, but unlike <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lundyse01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seth Lundy<\/a>, they weren\u2019t drafted by Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/roddyda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Roddy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/z\/zelleco01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cody Zeller<\/a> could also get the axe.<\/p>\n<p>Zeller, an 11-year veteran, is quite possibly at the bottom of the depth chart in his position group. Between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/capelca01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clint Capela<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/o\/okongon01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Onyeka Okongwu<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/n\/nancela02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Larry Nance Jr.<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gueyemo02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mouhamed Gueye<\/a>, there doesn\u2019t appear to be much room for him. His physical tools and experience are valuable. However, he\u2019s never been a reliable shot-blocker and isn\u2019t overly skilled.<\/p>\n<p>Roddy is something of an NBA fan favorite, but he\u2019s a player who\u2019s hard to pin down to a position.<\/p>\n<p>At 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds, he plays like a forward. Yet, he hasn\u2019t shown himself to be a reliable outside shooter, converting 30.1 percent of his career 3s. As he made only 31.9 percent of his 3-pointers at Colorado State, it might not be in the cards for him. At the other end, he has the girth and strength to wall of defenders, but doesn\u2019t stop them from getting into the paint.<\/p>\n<h3>What Can Harris Bring To Hawks?<\/h3>\n<p>For a team whose only 3-and-D threats are rookie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/risacza01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zaccharie Risacher<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/huntede01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">De\u2019Andre Hunter<\/a>, Harris is arguably a necessary addition.<\/p>\n<p>Harris made 37.2 percent of his career 3s with the Magic. He\u2019s converted 37.0 percent of his 3-pointers while in the G League. Lastly, he made 39.7 percent of his 3s in college after spending four seasons at Stephen F. Austin. All that is to say that his body of work inspires confidence in his ability to play off of the Hawks\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/09\/18\/hawks-can-four-horsemen-lead-them-nba-playoffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">on-ball scorers and playmakers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On top of that, Harris is a very solid perimeter defender. At 6-foot-5 and 216 pounds, he slides his feet well, can stop on a dime, and plays with the requisite tenacity. He can also guard longer players.
