Bluntly put, the list might have been a mess. There were some legitimate ranking decisions that spotted some<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> coaches way too low.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/coaches\/popovgr99c.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Gregg Popovich<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/coaches\/jenkita01c.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Taylor Jenkins<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/coaches\/malonmi99c.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Michael Malone<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> for instance,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> should be reconsidered immediately, considering their spots on the list. So should names like\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/coaches\/hardywi99c.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Will Hardy<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/coaches\/carliri01c.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Rick Carlisle<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, who are way too high.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">That <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">being said, some names failed to crack the top ten for reasons <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">unbeknownst to many. Those same names should have every opportunity to reach top ten <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">recognition by the 2024-25 season&#8217;s conclusion. Whether these names should already be considered in the top echelon of NBA coaches,\u00a0let&#8217;s\u00a0focus on why they should be considered.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chris Finch: Minnesota Timberwolves<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/coaches\/finchch01c.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chris Finch<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0had a rough<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> go in last season&#8217;s playoffs. He suffered a scary leg injury while colliding with\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/conlemi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mike Conley<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0in Game 4 against the Phoenix Suns. The incident moved him to a back seat, sitting in the assistant coach&#8217;s second row. Put this unfortunate ordeal aside, Finch has quickly risen in the coaching ranks since taking over as the bench boss and is undervalued in the CBS Top 30 NBA Coaches list. Ranked at number 12, Finch turned a not-so-great Timberwolves roster into one of the best teams in the league. Since 2021, Finch coached the T-Wolves to improving records each year and last season&#8217;s remarkable 56-win season.\u00a0Prior to\u00a0Finch, the team recorded only\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.landofbasketball.com\/teams\/records_minnesota_timberwolves.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">one 40+ win season in seven years<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Since then, he has done an excellent job unlocking\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/e\/edwaran01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Anthony Edwards.<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Subsequently, he figured out a path where\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/goberru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Rudy Gobert<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/townska01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Karl-Anthony Towns<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0actually fit together.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Expect Chris Finch to slide into the top ten coaching ranks next season, leading to a higher spot on next year&#8217;s top coaches list. Provided the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/09\/16\/minnesota-timberwolves-adds-a-pair-of-young-nba-veterans-do-they-have-a-chance-to-make-opening-night-roster\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Timberwolves<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> have another enormous season.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jason Kidd: Dallas Mavericks<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Yes, he has the sensational\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Luka Don\u010di\u0107<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0as his foundation to help his cause, but sitting in the 18th spot is disrespectful. Nevertheless, <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kiddja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jason Kidd<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0has done an admirable job in Dallas after disappointing coaching stops in Brooklyn and Milwaukee. He has been integral in Luka&#8217;s growth over the years. With Don\u010di\u0107, he has already coached the team to two Western Conference Finals and one NBA Finals. Kidd is also touted for his younger players&#8217; developmental skills and high-level rotation management. Under him, Don\u010di\u0107 and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/i\/irvinky01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Kyrie Irving<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0figured it out, which speaks to Kidd&#8217;s people management abilities. Notably, Kyrie also enjoyed a drama-free season. Lastly, Kidd is an ATO (after time out) magician with adjustments and play calling. The man knows how to call a good play.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Kidd should already be in<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the top ten, yet he is not considered in CBS&#8217;s list. However, a long\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/09\/17\/former-dallas-mavericks-center-leaves-nba-for-turkey\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mavericks<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0run deep into the playoffs should vault him into the shortlist of any of the league&#8217;s top NBA coaches lists.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Joe Mazzulla: Boston Celtics<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/coaches\/mazzujo99c.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Joe Mazzulla<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0has received a lot of flack and criticism since his sudden take-over of the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/09\/18\/ranking-the-3-biggest-eastern-conference-threats-to-the-celtics\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Celtics<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0following previous coach,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/u\/udokaim01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ime Udoka<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8216;s abrupt dismissal. Despite some early-on coaching mishaps, like clock management, Mazzulla is responsible for much more than he is credited for. He also won a championship ring last season after clocking the entire league over the head during the regular season. Remember that\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tatumja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jayson Tatum<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ja<\/a><\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">ylen Brown<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8216;s first championship came with Mazzulla leading the way after too many years of coming up short.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mazzulla was thrust into the lion&#8217;s den without much preparation time or so much of a &#8220;heads up.&#8221; Since then, he&#8217;s done a wonderful job coaching the Celtics. To repeat as NBA Champions this season is not a far reach for the franchise. Suppose Boston pulls off a similar season as last year. Joe Mazzulla has to then move into the top ten of NBA coaching ranks.
