According to an official press release, the terms of the contract have not been released. However, it is likely the team signed him to a training camp contract.

We have signed guard Max Abmas ✍️

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

— Utah Jazz (@utahjazz) September 16, 2024

Abmas previously signed with the Jazz as an undrafted free agent this summer. The guard appeared in five games for Utah during the Summer League. In those games, he averaged 10.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.

With the signing of Abmas, the Jazz now have one open roster spot remaining before training camp begins.

Utah Jazz Sign Former College Award Winner

Max Abmas’ College Career

The 23-year-old enjoyed a solid career as a collegiate basketball player. From 2019-2023, he played for the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. Additionally, he played for the Texas Longhorns from 2023-2024. In 2021, he earned the Lou Henson Award. This award is handed out to the best mid-major men’s college basketball player in NCAA Division I that year. Abmas was also the NCAA Division I leading scorer that year as well. Additionally, he is a Third-team All-American – NABC selection in 2023 and took home the Academic All-American of the Year honor in 2024, among many other accolades.

Where Max Abmas Fits With the Jazz

At this point, it is highly unlikely Abmas will be a regular contributor for the Jazz, especially immediately. While he enjoyed a successful career in college, he went undrafted earlier this year. Additionally, he had a rather unspectacular Summer League campaign as well. Abmas will most likely play with the Jazz’s G League affiliate for the 2024-25 season. However, he possesses some solid tools, especially due to his versatility and playmaking ability. If Abmas impresses in the G League, he could be in line for a two-way contract spot down the line.

A Recap of Utah’s Offseason

The Jazz were a pretty busy team this summer. Their biggest move was signing star Lauri Markkanen to a long-term contract extension. However, they made some intriguing external moves as well. The Jazz drafted Isaiah Collier and Kyle Filipowski this year. Both players have a chance to contribute this year. However, Cody Williams, who they selected with the 10th pick, should be an immediate contributor for Utah. Furthermore, they signed former Indiana Pacers big man Oscar Tshiebwe to a two-way contract and added Drew Eubanks, Patty Mills, and Svi Mykhailiuk to the roster.

Last season, the Jazz finished with a 31-51 record. This is a six-game dropoff from the season before. The last couple of seasons following the Donovan Mitchell trade have been tough for Jazz fans.
