After securing his first NBA Championship last season, Horford’s off-season included a recent invite to his father’s native home in the Dominican Republic. Horford carried his father’s Dominican roots to the NBA, taking after his dad as a professional basketball player. Horford’s father, Tito Horford, suited up for the Washington Wizards and Milwaukee Bucks from 1988 – 1994. Al, the soon-to-be 18-year veteran, continues to represent the Dominican Republic in the only way Al Horford can: with undeniable class.

The prestigious Order of Merit of Duarte, Sanchez, and Mella is the country’s highest and most respected honor. The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, personally handed it to Al Horford. In return, the Celtics champion presented the Larry O’Brien trophy.

In humble fashion, Horford was honored by the gesture of his country.

As Good A Human As He Is A Basketball Player

League-wide respect and admiration from across the NBA have always followed Al Horford. The Celtics rely heavily on his productivity and timely three-point shooting when they need it the most. Apart from being a great human being, Horford can still play ball and keep up despite being one of the oldest players in the league. Horford is accompanied by Kyle Lowry, Garrett Temple, and Jeff Green in the 38-year-old club. Apart from his basketball abilities, Horford is widely seen as one of the classiest and best guys in the league. The current Celtics President of Basketball Operations, Brad Stevens, has always spoken glowingly of the veteran. That was the case until he eventually made his way to Boston. Since then, he’s played in two finals, winning last season’s most recent trip. Most players his age are fighting for minutes or find themselves at the end of the bench. Al Horford has proven otherwise with the Celtics, even in his old years.

Celtics Will Need Horford This Season

As the 2024-25 season approaches, it’s already known that Kristaps Porziņģis will miss significant time due to surgery rehab. Horford will draw into the starting lineup alongside Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, and, most likely, Derrick White. Horford is the perfect player coaches love to have in their pockets, and Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla knows his veteran’s value and importance to the team firsthand.

He is a shining example of exemplifying a mixture of class and character, productivity, and dependability. For these reasons, the Boston Celtics Al Horford is still playing in the big games and collecting the many odes of respect along the way.

Life and professional achievement were honored for the Boston Celtics Al Horford this week as the Dominican Republic paid tribute and showed respect in the highest of forms.
