On the year, he averaged 7.1 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 46 games. Additionally, Shamet shot 43.1% from the field and a career-low 33.8% from the three-point line.

Back in July, HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported that the Knicks had interest in Shamet. Furthermore, the Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves were the other teams interested in the guard.

In his six-year career, Shamet has also played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, and Phoenix Suns.

New York Knicks Sign Sharpshooting Veteran Guard

What Landry Shamet Brings to the Knicks

The Missouri native has made a career as a solid three-point specialist. Last season was his least efficient campaign from beyond the arc. However, Shamet also averaged a career-low 3.4 three-point field goal attempts per game. In his career, he is a 38.4% shooter from behind the line. Additionally, he is a decent defender, but he is far from lockdown. Furthermore, at 6’4″, he is a bit undersized as a shooting guard. Regardless, that has not stopped him from having a solid career in the NBA up to this point.

With the Knicks, it is unlikely he will receive any type of major role. The team now has Mikal Bridges, who is projected to be their starting shooting guard. Furthermore, the Knicks have Donte DiVincenzo as the primary backup shooting guard and plenty of other players who can play the position if needed. However, this late in the offseason, signing Shamet is a very low-risk, high-reward move for the Knicks. He is a solid veteran who can play his role nicely.

The Last Word On Landry Shamet and the Knicks

The Knicks had one of the more interesting offseasons this summer. Early in the offseason, they acquired Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets in a bit of a shocking trade. Additionally, they signed Jalen Brunson to an extremely team-friendly contract extension and re-signed OG Anunoby. On the flip side, the Knicks lost Isaiah Hartenstein to the Oklahoma City Thunder and Alec Burks to the Heat. Furthermore, trade rumors involving Julius Randle do not appear to be stopping any time soon. At this point, it seems likely he is going to enter the 2024-25 season without a new contract.

Overall, the Knicks are in a great position to compete for a championship next year. They were the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference last season and should be even better now. Currently, the reigning champion Boston Celtics are still the team to beat in the conference. However, if there is anybody who can ruin their chances of repeating as champions, the Knicks are the team that can make that happen.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the New York Knicks have signed veteran guard Landry Shamet.
