With these moves, the Knicks&#8217; roster has drastically improved despite losing one key free agent. Only time will tell whether the roster additions are enough to propel the Knicks toward a championship expedition. Regardless, the team got better, and playoff contention should be a done deal.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>New York Knicks Offseason: A Review To Date<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>A Busy Knicks Offseason Included a Little of Everything<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The New York Knicks dove headfirst into the offseason with one of the biggest trades of the summer. The franchise also parted with several first-round draft picks, re-signed a highly notable free agent, and lost a highly notable free agent. The last <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">huge<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> offseason the Knickerbockers had was in <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2022<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> when they signed\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brunsja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jalen Brunson<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0as a free agent. That transaction has evolved into the most underrated free agent prize in the last decade\u2014and maybe the best free agent signing. Since adding Brunson, the Knick&#8217;s fortunes have shifted mightily.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This offseason, while less monumental a move than signing Brunson, the Knicks swung for the fences in trading for Mikal Bridges. The swap with Brooklyn involved five first-round draft picks, a pick swap, and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bogdabo02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bojan Bogdanovic<\/a>\u2014quite a haul for the Nets. Nevertheless, this sets up a reunion between Bridges and a few Villanova Wildcats teammates. The quartet featuring\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/divindo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Donte DiVincenzo<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hartjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Josh Hart<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Bridges, and Brunson won the NCAA National Championship <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">in<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">New York has essentially tossed all its cards on the table this offseason. The vision was to adjust and improve a roster that can compete, contend, and match up against other top teams in the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/08\/15\/the-bucks-should-consider-a-rebuild-if-they-have-another-disappointing-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Eastern Conference<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. So far, that vision is looking pretty good.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Key Player Departures<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Even though the Knicks cashed in on additions, there was also a significant loss <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">to\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">be felt<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Last year&#8217;s playoff standout<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harteis01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Isaiah Hartenstein<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,\u00a0left New York for Oklahoma as a free agent. Hartenstein was the heartbeat of the Knicks playoff run last year. His rebounding numbers were ridiculous against the Indiana Pacers and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/08\/21\/philadelphia-76ers-offseason-a-review-to-date\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Philadelphia 76ers<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0in rounds one and two. Losing him this offseason might hurt the Knicks at the center position. However,<\/span> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hartenstein had earned a payday, and the Thunder awarded him that giving him a three-year $87 million dollar deal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bogdabo02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bojan Bogdanovic<\/a>&#8216;s time in<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> New York\u00a0<\/span>was cut short due to<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0an injury that knocked him out of the playoffs.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0With the key roster additions made by the Knicks, trading the sharpshooter made sense, especially considering they got Bridges.\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Other offseason departures included\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/miltosh01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Shake Milton<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/washidu02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Duane Washington Jr<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">., and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/burksal01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Alec Burks. <\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Melton was part of the Bridges trade while Burks signed with the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/08\/26\/miami-heat-off-season-a-review-to-date\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Miami Heat<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0in early July.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Key Player Acquisitions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mikal Bridges was the big outside addition to the Knicks this offseason. Re-signing OG Anunoby was the most important move, though. Traded from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/08\/19\/toronto-raptors-are-reportedly-signing-2-year-nba-wing-jared-rhoden\/\" target=\"_self\">Toronto Raptors<\/a> mid-season, Anunoby fit perfectly with the Knicks lineup. The proof was in the team&#8217;s 20-3 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/nba\/ask\/knicks-record-with-og\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">record<\/a> with him playing. If he had not been lost to injury in the playoffs\u2014who knows?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Knicks also re-signed <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/achiupr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Precious Achiuwa<\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/toppija01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacob Toppin<\/a>\u00a0and added\u00a0<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/payneca01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cameron Payne<\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bateske01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keita Bates-Diop<\/a>\u00a0was included in the Nets trade along with Bridges.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Knick\u2019s Impressive Lineup <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It isn\u2019t easy to fully come out and proclaim the Knicks as clear-cut favorites in the East. One of their flaws is lacking depth and availability at the center position.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/robinmi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mitchell Robinson<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0is good but injury-prone. However, the Bridges trade and retaining Anunoby has to vault the Knicks into top contention in their conference. A lineup featuring Brunson, Bridges, Anunoby, DiVincenzo, and Hart, with Robinson covering the paint, is a daunting, energetic, and tenacious lineup. Last year\u2019s playoffs showed that, and that was sans Bridges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If the Knicks can stay<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> healthy and available, Jalen Brunson and his rag-tag crew of Nova cats can absolutely contend for a final-four spot next May.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New York Knicks entered &#8220;all-in&#8221; mode this offseason by trading for Mikal Bridges\u00a0and extending OG Anunoby.
