The Cavs will head down south to Sarasota, Florida for training camp this year. The prestigious IMG Academy<\/a> will host Kenny Atkinson<\/a> and his team for a week-long training camp ahead of the season.<\/p>\n

Cavs Training Camp to be Held at IMG Academy<\/h2>\n

The Cavs traditionally hold their training camp at the Cleveland Clinic Courts practice facility in Ohio. However, it seems the Cavs opted for a change of scenery this time around. President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman<\/a> voiced his enthusiasm for the visit.<\/p>\n

IMG Academy is one of the most prominent boarding schools in the country. Known for their athletics, they boast both educational and athletic state-of-the-art facilities.<\/p>\n

IMG Chief Operating Officer, Mike Milliron expressed his excitement<\/a> to have the Cavs in town.<\/p>\n

The camp will span from October 1-6, before leaving for Florida the Cavs will host their media day on September 30 in Cleveland.<\/p>\n

What to Expect From Cavs Training Camp<\/h3>\n

In terms of the Cavs camp, there is not too much unknown. The team recently penned deals with Emoni Bates<\/a> and J.T. Thor<\/a> on two-way contracts. Both players will be in attendance in Sarasota as they attempt to make the opening night roster. The Cavs will be in Toronto to play the Raptors to open their season<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Cavs still have an available two-way contract ahead of training camp which they will need to fill. Additionally, Cleveland will likely add players on exhibit-10 deals to bring them in for a try-out.<\/p>\n

This upcoming camp is huge for the Cavs for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, it is their first under first-year head coach Kenny Atkinson. It will be his first chance to get a close look at his roster going into the new campaign. Secondly, their a few position battles within the Cavs ranks. Craig Porter Jr.<\/a> and Ty Jerome<\/a> will duel it out for the backup point-guard spot. Jerome signed a two-year deal with the Cavs last offseason and appeared in just two games last season before going down with an injury. Porter, entering his sophomore season, was a breakout rotation player for the team last season. Finally, the wing spots are all up for grabs. Atkinson will get a better idea of the rotation he wishes to use in late October.<\/p>\n

For the first time in five years, the Cavs will have a new philosophy behind the bench. Training camp is the first time the team will be together officially under Atkinson’s tenure.
