Mired in injury woes last season, Herro was again subjected to trade rumors following last season’s end. Can he shed those rumors this year? Let’s talk about what he can do and how his off-season training has prepared him.

Health & Training Give Miami Heat Guard Optimism For New Season

Miami Heat Guard’s Injury Frustrations

Herro, the oft-injured Miami Heat guard, is one of those NBA players who unwillingly gravitates toward trade talks and rumors. For the past three years, Herro’s name has circulated in that space possibly more than almost any player in recent seasons. At this point in the off-season, Herro’s place in Miami seems safe for the time being.

The 2023-24 season was a challenging one for the Heat guard. Injuries kept Herro out of 40 regular season games, allowing him to play in only 42. This was not a unique situation for Herro, as he has missed 15 games or more in each of his five seasons due to injuries. Despite this, Herro has averaged 20 points per game each season since 2021-22 while also shooting a high percentage from three-point range. Herro is entering a new campaign fully healthy and with a positive outlook on his ability to stay on the floor with his teammates.

Looking To Stay Healthy From Start to Finish

Herro has primarily dedicated this summer to strengthening his body and conditioning to reduce injury. Having missed time every season of his career, Herro knows his lack of availability has hurt the Heat. So, this summer, he went to work. In a conversation with Forbes SportsMoney, Herro spoke about this.

“We haven’t been healthy yet. But we feel like when we do get healthy, we have a very deep team – a team that is deep enough to make a run in the East and ultimately win the NBA title…My biggest thing right now is developing my body and trying to get stronger so that I can stay as healthy as possible throughout the season.”

The Heat guard is just one of a handful of players that has missed time with injury for Miami. Jimmy Butler, Miami’s leader and best overall player, has also caught the injury bug time and time again. Butler and Terry Rozier missed the entirety of Miami’s playoff round against the Boston Celtics. Herro played in that series, although it was in vain.

Herro’s Opportunity To Shed Trade Rumors

The 2024-25 NBA season kicks off in October, and the Heat for now seem to be fully healthy, as is Herro. There is an open window for him to have one of his best seasons as a member of the Heat, if not the best. After taking a different approach to his off-season training regimen, Herro is highly optimistic about staying on the floor and carving out a good season.

The Heat guard will have the opportunity to share the backcourt with Rozier, whom the Heat traded for last season. Rozier might just be Miami’s X-factor to a successful season. He’s an intelligent, shifty point guard. Herro is an excellent spot-up shooter, can handle the ball, and is a smart passer. His pick-and-roll game with Bam Adebayo also strengthens Miami’s offense.

Like the Heat, Herro’s season will depend on health performance and availability. The 2024-25 season will illuminate if the dedication to his body and physical development this summer can reap any rewards. Perhaps Herro can stave off pesky trade gossip for one more season if it does.

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro is ready for the 2024-25 NBA season after a summer of training and development.
