In a post on X, The Athletic&#8217;s Shams Charania revealed that the upcoming NBA season will begin on October 22, 2024. According to Charania, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/06\/18\/the-boston-celtics-win-the-2024-nba-finals-champions\/\" target=\"_self\">the reigning champion Boston Celtics<\/a> will host the New York Knicks in the first game of the season. Interestingly, this is the second consecutive season that both teams will begin their season against each other. Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2023\/10\/26\/celtics-vs-knicks-four-takeaways\/\" target=\"_self\">the Celtics defeated the Knicks<\/a> in Madison Square Garden by a score of 108-104. However, despite their losses, the Knicks should be one of the most exciting teams to watch next season.<\/p>\n<p>As the top-two seeds in the Eastern Conference last season, the Celtics and Knicks are poised to be legitimate title contenders again this season. Additionally, it would be a surprise to nobody if they matched up in the Eastern Conference Finals next year.<\/p>\n<h3>Los Angeles Lakers vs. Minnesota Timberwolves<\/h3>\n<p>The Lakers and Timberwolves should be an entertaining matchup. Minnesota took the NBA world by storm last season, finishing as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. Additionally, they made it all the way <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/05\/20\/timberwolves-nuggets-game-7-showdown-makes-nba-history\/\" target=\"_self\">to the conference finals<\/a> for the first time since 2004. Despite ultimately losing to the Dallas Mavericks in five games, the Timberwolves proved they are a serious threat in the conference. Furthermore, they ended up losing in the first round to the Denver Nuggets. However, things should look different for the Lakers next season. Despite making minimal roster moves, the Lakers made headlines by drafting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesbr02.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-08-12_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bronny James<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/05\/24\/bronny-james-2024-nba-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_self\">the 2024 NBA Draft<\/a>.
