In addition to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/07\/22\/los-angeles-lakers-could-add-12-year-center-next-season-jonas-valanciunas\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reports of acquiring<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/valanjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Jonas Valanciunas<\/a> at the upcoming trade deadline, the team also remains in the running for an Eastern Conference forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers Still Linked to Brooklyn Sharpshooter<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Lakers Remain Interested in Cam Johnson<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/lauri-markkanen-trade-talks-reed-sheppard-dominance-nba-summer-league\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ClutchPoints\u2019 Brett Siegel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Lakers are among a contingent of teams interested in Nets forward <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/johnsca02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cam Johnson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Bojan Bogdanovic are the three forwards teams around the league are labeling as the next names to be on the move. Out of this grouping of players, Johnson is the one generating the most interest. In addition to the Kings inquiring about Johnson, the Rockets, Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and San Antonio Spurs have been linked to the former first-round pick, sources said.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Across 58 games (47 starts) for Brooklyn, the 28-year-old averaged 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.8 steals per game. He also shot 44% from the field, 39% from three and nearly 79% from the free-throw line. Johnson signed a <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.spotrac.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/31568\/cameron-johnson\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">four-year, $94.5 million contract<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> last summer. But with the Nets officially in rebuild mode, there\u2019s a chance the team could move on from him as they attempt to stockpile future assets. According to <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/netswire.usatoday.com\/2024\/06\/23\/nets-cam-johnsons-contract-viewed-as-favorable-by-nba-cap-expert\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">salary cap expert Yossi Gozlan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Johnson\u2019s deal is still solid despite underperforming as a starter:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though he didn\u2019t quite perform as many Nets fans were hoping, I still think that\u2019s a great contract. To be making low 20s while being a starter, those are pretty good contracts.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><b>Does Johnson to the Lakers Make Sense?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Johnson\u2019s size and perimeter shooting are clear positives for the Lakers, who will need 3-and-D wings\u2014among other positions\u2014to remain competitive in the Western Conference. Throughout his five years in the NBA, Johnson\u2019s lowest three-point percentage was 34.9% in 2020-21\u2014his second year with the Phoenix Suns. LA has emphasized the need for shooters next to <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeBron James<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/davisan02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anthony Davis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and adding a marksman in Johnson is better than nothing. That potential acquisition, however, comes with notable cons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main concern about adding Johnson is reliability. While James and Davis played the majority of the season, injuries to the supporting cast limited the group\u2019s potential last year. Johnson\u2019s 58 games played for Brooklyn is the third-most he\u2019s played in his career. He suited up for 66 in 2022 and 60 in 2021 (both with Phoenix). His injuries last year ranged from three separate leg injuries to a big toe sprain, which resulted in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.netsdaily.com\/2024\/3\/16\/24103285\/cam-johnson-says-all-the-right-things-about-coming-off-the-bench-but\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more time with the second unit late in the season<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The Lakers may not be willing to trade for someone who hasn\u2019t played a full 82-game season yet. Considering that 26-year-old <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hachiru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rui Hachimura<\/span><\/a> <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/nba\/ask?q=rui+hachimura+stats+as+starter+2023-24\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">outplayed<\/span><\/a> <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/nba\/ask?q=cam+johnson+stats+as+starter+2023-24\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Johnson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as a starter, that may leave LA even less inclined to seriously pursue him. And for a team that\u2019s very concerned about stepping into second apron territory, trading for a $23 million player may not be the best avenue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But still, if Rob Pelinka decides to take another swing at a solid rotation player, it certainly wouldn\u2019t hurt to call the Nets and ask about Cam Johnson.
