The purple and gold went 0-3 in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/07\/08\/nba-summer-league-rookie-recaps-day-two\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">California Classic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, most recently giving up an 11-0 run to the Miami Heat and losing 80-76. Despite the losses, some players have shown plenty of potential in key areas. They\u2019ll be the ones to watch as LA embarks on a three-game slate\u2014and potentially beyond\u2014in Sin City starting tonight.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Previewing the Lakers Las Vegas Summer League<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Players to Watch<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most Laker fans will be paying attention to the Lakers\u2019 two drafted rookies\u2014<\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/knechda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dalton Knecht<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesbr02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bronny James<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014who have had their highlights and lowlights on display so far.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knecht is leading the Lakers in scoring with 14.7 points per game, but his efficiency is suspect. He has shot 30% from the field, 26% from three and 73% from the free-throw line. Wednesday\u2019s game against Miami marked Knecht\u2019s best performance of the summer so far: 20 points (14 in the first half), nine rebounds and one assist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bronny, meanwhile, has faced plenty of criticism for his lack of production in LA\u2019s first three games. He averaged 3.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game have done little to convince fans and media of his true talent. However, James Jr has shown he\u2019s solid defensively. He leads the Lakers in steals per game with 1.5, and displayed excellent pressure both on the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/OhhMar24\/status\/1811197653155303771\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">perimeter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and in the paint.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/LakersLegacyPod\/status\/1811214588807180323<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A couple more Lakers to look for are <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/castlco01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colin Castleton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hinsobl01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blake Hinson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who are both on two-way contracts. Castleton, like Knecht, also shined against the Heat on Wednesday. The 24-year-old big man tallied 18 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, three steals and two assists. He leads the team in rebounds per game (10.3) while scoring 13 points per game on 46% shooting. Hinson\u2014one of the Lakers\u2019 undrafted rookies\u2014impressed in his Summer League debut with <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Lakers\/status\/1809713834577514541\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">17 points on 5\/7 shooting from three-point range<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, proving why he was heralded as one of the best shooters in this year\u2019s class. However, Hinson went ice cold the following two games, shooting 2\/10 against the Warriors and 1\/8 against the Heat\u2014all from three.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Lakers Vegas Summer League Opponents<\/b><\/h3>\n<h4>Houston Rockets: July 12, 4:30 PM PT (ESPN, ESPN+)<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lakers will open their stint in Vegas with a matchup against the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/07\/08\/houston-hoping-to-be-summer-league-specialists-no-longer\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Houston Rockets<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who are headlined by 2023 Summer League MVP <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/whitmca01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cam Whitmore<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and this year\u2019s third overall pick, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sheppre01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reed Sheppard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Both players are essential to the Rockets\u2019 core and hope to show out in Summer League. Besides attempting to contain those two, the Lakers may also have to worry about <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/griffaj01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AJ Griffin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a 2022 first-round pick <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hawks-rockets-trade-griffin-546f397ae05049db8c8b05ce19d3c1b6\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who was acquired from the Hawks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in a three-team deal on draft night.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Boston Celtics: July 15, 7:30 PM (NBA TV, ESPN+)<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following Houston, LA will take on the dreaded Boston Celtics. Fresh off of passing the Lakers in championships, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.celticsblog.com\/2024\/7\/8\/24194303\/boston-celtics-nba-summer-league-roster-jordan-walsh-neemias-queta-jaden-springer-baylor-scheierman\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boston\u2019s Summer League squad<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> looks to come out of the gate with surefire aggression. Summer League will be the perfect place for Bufkin to show off his growth and potential, giving the Lakers yet another opposing two-way threat to keep an eye on. The same could be said for fellow returner <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gueyemo02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mouhamed Gueye<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a 6\u201911\u201d center who will aim to reak havoc against the Lakers\u2019 bigs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Cleveland Cavaliers: July 18, 9:00 PM (ESPN, ESPN+)<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lakers\u2019 regular season Summer League will conclude with the reigning Summer League champion Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs have some familiar faces making an appearance this summer. One of them is <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/portecr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Craig Porter Jr.<\/a>, a second-year guard whose strong Summer League showing earned him a two-way contract. He will still be playing in Vegas <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/cavs\/2024\/07\/craig-porter-jr-leads-cavs-summer-league-roster-while-not-at-100.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">despite recovering from an ankle injury<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> he sustained at the end of last season.
