They have now done so. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Pelicans are singing center <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/theisda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daniel Theis<\/a> on a one-year deal. He played just one game for them before they released him a few weeks into the season. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/07\/05\/los-angeles-clippers-re-signing-controversial-big-man-kai-jones\/\" target=\"_self\">Los Angeles Clippers<\/a> picked him up a couple of days later. They were in need of a backup big because <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/plumlma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mason Plumlee<\/a> suffered an MCL injury that kept him out of action for some time.<\/p>\n<p>Theis would fill in admirably in Plumlee\u2019s absence. Theis appeared in 59 games for Los Angeles last season playing 17.1 minutes per game on average. He would go on to average 6.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks. The seven-year NBA veteran shot 53.6% from the field for Los Angeles. While he doesn\u2019t shoot three-pointers frequently, he\u2019s capable of connecting on them (26-70, 37.1% with Clippers). With Plumlee back in the lineup, Theis played just one game (four minutes) of their first-round loss in six games to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/07\/04\/nba-brothers-to-team-up-again-as-mavericks-marcus-markieff-morris\/\" target=\"_self\">Dallas Mavericks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 373 career regular season games, Theis has posted career averages of 7.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks. His career shooting splits are .541\/.331\/.718. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.eurohoops.net\/en\/olympic-games\/1680778\/germany-announces-16-man-squad-for-2024-paris-olympics\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">He will be representing Germany<\/a> in the 2024 Summer Olympics.<\/p>\n<h3>Daniel Theis Helps To Fill A Need For Pelicans<\/h3>\n<p>The Pelicans finished last season 49-33 but were swept in the opening round by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/07\/01\/2024-nba-free-agency-thunder-add-former-knicks-center\/\" target=\"_self\">Oklahoma City Thunder<\/a>. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/valanjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonas Valanciunas<\/a> started every game for New Orleans at center. He became a free agent at the end of the season, and he has signed with the Washington Wizards. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/n\/nancela02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Larry Nance Jr.<\/a> soaked up much of the reserve center minutes behind Valanciunas, but he was included in the offseason deal with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/07\/05\/report-little-recent-interest-for-atlanta-hawks-star-trae-young\/\" target=\"_self\">Atlanta Hawks<\/a> that is sending <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/murrade01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dejounte Murray<\/a> to the Pelicans. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/fantasy\/basketball\/news\/hawks-cody-zeller-included-in-dejounte-murray-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">It was later announced<\/a> that another center from last season\u2019s team, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/z\/zelleco01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cody Zeller<\/a>, would also be included in the deal to Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p>The only centers for the 2024-25 roster for New Orleans prior to signing Theis were <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/robinje02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeremiah Robinson-Earl<\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/missiyv01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yves Missi<\/a>. The 23-year-old Robinson-Earl, listed at six-foot-nine, has mostly split his minutes between power forward and center. He didn\u2019t receive much playing time for the Pelicans last season though. (39 appearances, 8.6 minutes per game). Missi was selected 21st overall by the Pelicans in the 2024 NBA Draft out of Baylor.
