In what started as a disappointing night for the Brooklyn Nets, general manager Sean Marks<\/strong> turned the NBA’s Eastern Conference on its ear. Last night, the Nets acquired small forward\u00a0DeMarre Carroll<\/strong> from the Toronto Raptors along with two 2018 draft picks, according to ESPN.<\/p>\n

Nets Off-Season Recap Thus Far<\/strong><\/h3>\n

As free agency began, the NBA was still in shock from the Nets’\u00a0trade with the L.A. Lakers<\/a>. However, Marks was still expected to further partake in some high-level wheeling and dealing. The Nets were pursuing restricted free agents (RFA), as they did in 2016. Last summer, Marks and the Nets were zero for three with RFA signings. Brooklyn’s plans\u00a0<\/span>were\u00a0ultimately thwarted.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, the Nets pursued Washington Wizards small forward<\/a> Otto Porter Jr. <\/strong>last week. Porter was the third overall pick in the 2013\u00a0NBA Draft. In the 2016 season, Porter posted career-high averages of 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. He did all of this while shooting 51.6 percent from the field and 43.4 percent from three-point range. Porter finished\u00a0fourth in voting for the Most Improved Player award.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, it was announced the Nets offered Porter\u00a0a four-year contract worth\u00a0$106.5 million<\/a>. This was the maximum possible contract offer for Porter. Porter signed the offer sheet on Thursday at noon \u2013 as soon as the league’s free agency moratorium had ended. The Wizards had until Saturday to match the offer and retain Porter\u2019s services, or to decide not to and lose Porter. Wizards management publicly stated that the team would match any offers made to Porter.<\/p>\n

At 10 p.m. Saturday evening, Washington Post<\/em> reporter Candace<\/strong> Buckner confirmed what the Wizards decided:<\/p>\n
