Making him the first $70 million dollar player in league history. Tatum is a franchise cornerstone who has been the catalyst for the Celtics&#8217; success over the past seven seasons. Notably, Tatum led the Celtics in points, rebounds, and assists during the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/stats\/_\/name\/bos\/table\/game\/sort\/avgPoints\/dir\/desc\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">playoffs<\/a>. He averaged 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists. The star power of Tatum and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownja02.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaylen Brown<\/a> surrounded by an elite core of well-rounded players is why the Celtics were so dominant.<\/p>\n<h3>An Expensive Championship Core<\/h3>\n<p>Tatum&#8217;s deal will be the second super max on the Celtics roster as Brown signed one last summer which at the time was also the largest contract in league history. This further commits the Celtics to the second apron tax penalty which restricts them in several ways. Additionally, the Celtics are projected to be the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/celtics\/2024\/07\/what-wyc-grousbeck-decision-to-sell-celtics-signals-for-teams-future.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">most expensive roster<\/a> in NBA history which will only increase in cost.
