Here\u2019s a look at the Lakers\u2019 grades for the 2024 NBA Draft.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Grading the Lakers 2024 NBA Draft<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Dalton Knecht<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Much has already been made about <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/dalton-knecht-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dalton Knecht<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/06\/27\/2024-nba-draft-los-angeles-lakers-land-draft-day-steal-dalton-knecht\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">falling to the Lakers at #17<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Wednesday, but it bears repeating: this is an absolute home-run of a selection. Knecht\u2019s 6\u20195\u201d frame combined with his sharpshooting, athleticism and physicality make him a perfect fit for the upcoming roster. Depending on how the rest of the summer goes, Knecht may find himself getting significant minutes sooner than later. Guided by head coach <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/redicjj01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">JJ Redick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who played a very similar role as a movement shooter in the NBA, the 23-year-old will make a great first impression on Laker fans and the rest of the NBA. The fact that he has a little extra motivation helps matters greatly, as <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/5595293\/2024\/06\/27\/lakers-nba-draft-dalton-knecht\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knecht said after he was drafted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every time I touch a basketball or walk into a gym, I always feel like I got something to prove. And it doesn\u2019t matter where I\u2019m at, it\u2019s always going to be there and have that chip on my shoulder for feeling like I\u2019ve been underrated my whole life. So it\u2019s going to be something that I\u2019ll carry with me for the rest of my career.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><b><i>Grade:<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A+<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><b>Bronny James<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As many expected, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/bronny-james-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bronny James<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was available when the Lakers were on the clock at no. 55, and Rob Pelinka decided to turn his and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LeBron James<\/a>\u2019s dreams into reality. He will be led not only by his father but a player-development-centered coach in Redick. James has already shown signs of a high basketball IQ, underrated athleticism and strong defensive potential. According to Rob Pelinka, James Jr. has also displayed a humble and excellent character that fits the mold of the Lakers organization. The 6\u20198\u201d forward last played in France\u2019s LNB Pro A league, where he averaged 10.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists on .541\/.262\/.629 splits. Traore, per scouting reports, has impressed with his athleticism and rebounding and does the brunt of his scoring inside the arc. He has also shown solid potential as a defender and playmaker and will need to develop into an adequate floor-spacer. The Lakers have been a team willing to bet on young, undrafted talent, and picking up Traore is yet another reminder of that.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Armel Traore has declared for the 2024 NBA Draft, he told ESPN. The 6&#39;9 forward with a 7&#39;3 wingspan is having a productive season in the French first division, averaging 10.3 points and 7.4 rebounds in 25 minutes per game for Blois. <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8ryAs8xUJd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/8ryAs8xUJd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jonathan Givony (@DraftExpress) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DraftExpress\/status\/1777699484262101032?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">April 9, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Grade:<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> B+<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><b>Blake Hinson (Two-Way)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pittsburgh forward <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/blake-hinson-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blake Hinson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> made a name for himself as one of this year\u2019s best perimeter shooters, and the Lakers managed to snag him on another two-way contract. Across 33 games, the senior averaged 18.5 points while shooting 42% from three on nearly eight attempts per game. Hinson enters the league as a 25-year-old rookie, having redshirted two years at Iowa State due to medical issues. Still, as proven by the selection of Knecht, the Lakers have no problem taking a chance on older rookies who fill key needs. Hinson will need to grow as a rebounder (4.4 per game this season) and passer (0.8 per game), but the scoring touch and potential are clearly there.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Blake Hinson missed two seasons of college basketball; hooped at LA Fitness; worked as an Instacart driver; came to Pitt; set the school\u2019s three-point scoring record; led the team to its first win at Duke in 45 years\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2026.and now he gets to join LeBron James and the L.A. Lakers.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Amanda Godsey (@AmandaFGodsey) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AmandaFGodsey\/status\/1806468357321035998?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">June 27, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Grade:<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A-<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><b>Exhibit 10 Signings<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The team has also picked up several players on Exhibit 10 contracts. Though there are no guarantees they\u2019ll make even the G League affiliate roster, both of these players are solid signings who have plenty to prove in Summer League and, potentially, beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Xavier guard <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/quincy-olivari-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quincy Olivari<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an undersized guard who did some major damage in the Big East. The 6\u20192\u201d super senior led the conference in scoring with an average of 19.1 points on .425\/.409\/.814 splits. Prior to that, he lit up scoreboards while playing for Rice University, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.cincinnati.com\/story\/sports\/college\/xavier\/2024\/06\/27\/report-xaviers-quincy-olivari-signs-exhibit-10-deal-with-la-lakers\/74240524007\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">having tallied nearly 1,500 points over the course of four seasons<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Olivari was an <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.bannersontheparkway.com\/2024\/3\/11\/24097439\/quincy-olivari-got-screwed-should-have-been-first-team\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">honorable mention on the Big East\u2019s all-conference team<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The last signing as of Thursday evening was Mizzou guard <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/sean-east-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sean East II<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Similar to Olivari, East II is an underrated, high-level scorer with five years of collegiate experience. East played for UMass, Bradley, and John A. Logan College before settling into Missouri for his final two years. In 30 games for the Tigers, the super senior broke out and averaged 17.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and four assists per game. He shot 52% from the field, 45% from three (only on 2.7 attempts per game) and 85% from the free-throw line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Grades:<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> B+<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Last Word<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, the Lakers should be proud of their progress in this year\u2019s class. They managed to not only find some gems and make some history, but they\u2019ve added pieces who still have loads of potential.
