After another season of below .500 ball, the Jazz may look to improve their roster. They are in a prime position to do so, having cap room and assets to be aggressive in trades and free agency this offseason. Let\u2019s take a look at Utah\u2019s upcoming offseason.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>2024 NBA Off-Season Preview: What&#8217;s Next For The Jazz<\/h2>\n<h3>Season Recap<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jazz season played out much like last year&#8217;s did. Though the Jazz didn\u2019t get off to as hot of a start as last year. Coming into the trade deadline the Jazz were rolling winning 13 of their last 20 games. They had a 26-27 record and a real shot of making the play-in.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the front office decided against this short-term win. Trading away <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/o\/olynyke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kelly Olynyk<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/agbajoc01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ochai Agbaji<\/a>, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/fontesi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Simone Fontecchio<\/a> at the deadline for more draft assets. The Jazz would then go 5-25 over the last 30 games of the season finishing with a 31-51 record.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jazz ranked dead last in defensive rating with a 120 rating, one of the worst in league history. Yet it isn\u2019t all doom and gloom in Utah.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/markkla01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Lauri Markkanen<\/a> had another productive season, averaging 23 points 8 rebounds and 2 assists on 48\/40\/90 shooting spilts.\u00a0 Rookies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/georgke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keyonte George<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sensabr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brice Sensabaugh<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hendrita01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Taylor Hendricks<\/a> showed promising flashes, especially down the stretch when they got more minutes. The three rookies combined for 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists. Proving that they could all be potential core pieces.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Projected Cap Space and Draft Picks<\/h3>\n<h4>Under the cap<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jazz will have a projected 38 million dollars in cap space. Giving them the ability to be aggressive in free agency. The Jazz could use this money in free agency and try and sign a star like Paul Geroge. The Jazz can also use their cap room to absorb another team&#8217;s bad contract in exchange for future assets. With the new CBA, cap room has become more valuable and the Jazz are one of the few teams with a lot of it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Draft Picks<\/h4>\n<h4>10th, 29th and 32nd pick<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gleague.nba.com\/player\/1641842\/ron-holland\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron Holland<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/international\/players\/nikola-topic-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nikola Topic<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/international\/players\/tidjane-salaun-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tidjane Sala\u00fcn<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/ajay-mitchell-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ajay Mitchell<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/baylor-scheierman-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baylor Scheieramn\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/jaylon-tyson-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaylon Tyson<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/terrence-shannonjr-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Terrence Shannon\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jazz will have three picks in the upcoming draft. Two in the first round with picks 10 and 29 and one second-round pick at 32.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the 10th pick the Jazz, should look to take a swing and add someone with all-star upside. Holland, Topic, and Sala\u00fcn are three names that come to mind and one should be available at number 10.<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/05\/16\/ron-holland-2024-nba-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"> Holland averaged 20<\/a> points in the G-League this past season and has shown the most as a scorer. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/05\/04\/nikola-topic-2024-nba-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Topic is the best playmaker<\/a> out of the three and is probably the best one in the class. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/06\/19\/tidjane-salaun-2024-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Salaun is still very raw<\/a> but has real shot-creation ability at 6\u201910. The Jazz have held workouts with all three prospects for a closer look.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jazz\u2019s next two picks are very close together meaning most of the same players should be available at both selections. Depending on who the Jazz can draft at 10 this selection might vary.\u00a0 If the Jazz can select a guard like Topic at 10 they could look at one or two of the three wings here.<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/04\/28\/baylor-scheierman-2024-nba-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"> Scheierman<\/a> is the best shooter out of the trio, connecting on 38% of his threes last season. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/05\/17\/jaylon-tyson-2024-nba-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Tyson is the best passer<\/a> out of the three, averaging 3 assists last season and is the youngest.<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/06\/23\/terrence-shannon-jr-2024-nba-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"> Shannon<\/a> has the most on-ball creation skill, averaging 20 last season. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/05\/27\/ajay-mitchell-2024-nba-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Ajay Mitchell<\/a> is a guard who averaged 20 points, and he would be a great get if they aren\u2019t able to take one at 10.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Pending Free Agents and Possible Departures<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4>Free Agents<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hortota01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Talen Horton-Tucker<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lewiski01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kira Lewis Jr<\/a> (restricted)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dunnkr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kris Dunn<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/samanlu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luka Samanic<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slcdunk.com\/2024\/4\/18\/24134506\/nba-free-agency-report-talen-horton-tucker-not-likely-to-return-next-season-to-the-utah-jazz?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0BMQABpvJNh7a9RKHGdcHs1CiVGZ-eAeQn02XeLRWVfJnUna7ECWqMPeLqG9DlXw_aem_Adm7-HZumI6lR1I68hdaeEogY3UOsSMNtv22OkoWWCacm01GwefPLhh8Ch1_vKuApZ4\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reports suggest<\/a> fifth-year guard Talen Horton-Tucker won\u2019t be on the roster next season. With Horton-Tucker leaving, it would open more minutes for second-year wing <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sensabr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brice Sensabaugh<\/a>. Lewis Jr didn\u2019t play much after being traded to the Jazz at the deadline. The fourth-year guard is a restricted free agent allowing the Jazz time to decide if they would like him on the roster next season. Kris Dunn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/jazz\/news\/help-a-team-win-with-future-unknown-dunn-has-proven-he-belongs-in-the-nba\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has fans in the front office<\/a> and coaching staff in Utah. However, at 30, the veteran guard may look to sign with a contender for a chance to compete next season. It is unclear what the Jazz will do with Luka Samanic. Samanic isn\u2019t an impact player or part of the Jazz long-term.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Trade Pieces<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kesslwa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Walker Kessler\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/clarkjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Clarkson<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/collijo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">John Collins<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10th Overall Pick\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jazz are <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsnaut.com\/utah-jazz-trade-rumors-walker-kessler\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">willing to engage<\/a> in trade talks surrounding second-year big man Walker Kessler. In his two-year career, Kessler has been a great rim protector and could be used in a deal for a star as a promising young player. The Jazz can add the no. 10 pick to sweeten any deal Kessler might be in. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clarkson is the longest-tenured Jazz and the only holdover from the Gobert\/Mitchell era. The 30-year-old is a walking bucket and is on a team-friendly deal. A contender might look at him as the missing piece to their roster and be willing to spend future picks on him Collins will be the toughest player to move, He has two more years on his deal at $26 million. Collins, while productive with the Jazz, doesn\u2019t fit the team&#8217;s timeline and takes away minutes from their young players.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Realistic Offseason Targets<\/h3>\n<h4>Trade Targets<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/y\/youngtr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trae Young<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/garlada01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Darius Garland<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/allenja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jarrett Allen<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/willipa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrick Williams<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jazz have been reported to be interested in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/sports\/2024\/05\/30\/nba-trade-rumors-utah-jazz-john-collins-jordan-clarkson\/#:~:text=Per%20FanSided%E2%80%99s%20Evan%20Sidery%2C%20the%20Jazz%20are%20open,and%20No.%2029%20%E2%80%94%20for%20a%20win-now%20player.%E2%80%9D\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">adding star talent <\/a>to the roster this offseason. With the cap room and assets they process very few stars should be off the table. The Jazz should be looking for guards to fill the hole left by Mitchell. Young fills that hole, providing an instant number-one option and an elite playmaker for the team. The defense would be worse with Young but it would turn the Jazz into an elite offense. Garland is another option they could look to add at point guard. Garland would be cheaper to get than Trae and do the same things Young does just slightly worse. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jazz could look to upgrade their front-court talent as well. Allen would be a great fit for this team. He does all the good things Kessler does while being a much better offensive weapon. Lastly, the Jazz might look to add young talents through trades and could get a promising wing in Williams. The 2024 free agent class isn\u2019t the most star-studded one, but there are a few interesting names. The Jazz will have upwards of 38 million dollars which they could use to try and sign Geroge or DeRozan. Both wings would instantly become the best or second-best player on the roster and fill a hole at the small forward position. The Jazz have <a href=\"https:\/\/hoopshype.com\/2024\/06\/21\/mavs-jazz-interested-in-tobias-harris\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shown interest in<\/a>\u00a0Harris as well, and he would add talent and a veteran presence. The Jazz could take a different route and look to spend their money on veteran leadership and locker-room guys like Temple and Jordan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This offseason might provide some clarity on what the Jazz\u2019s front office thinks of this team and core group. The Jazz have the money and assets to be aggressive in looking for a star to pair alongside Markkanen.
