The 6-foot floor general shined this season even with the emergence of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/bronny-james-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bronny James<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/isaiah-collier-2.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isaiah Collier<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and has since impressed scouts with his play at the NBA Draft Combine.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Boogie Ellis 2024 NBA Draft Profile<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>College Career<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ellis spent his first two years at Memphis, putting up 9.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game on .366\/.358\/.673 splits. He <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/story\/_\/id\/31154633\/coach-penny-hardaway-says-memphis-tigers-nit-title-just-start\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">led the Tigers to an NIT championship<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> behind a 23-point performance, and scored 27 in the Tigers\u2019 AAC Tournament loss to Houston. He ended his sophomore year as the AAC Sixth Man of the Year and as a member of the All-AAC Tournament squad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon arrival to Los Angeles, Ellis made an instant impact. He improved his scoring average and efficiency\u201412.5 PPG on .417\/.376\/.798 splits\u2014while USC went 26-8 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/usctrojans.com\/news\/2022\/3\/18\/usc-trojans-mens-basketball-recap-ncaa-tournament-miami-hurricanes-first-round-drew-peterson-reese-dixon-waters.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">before falling to Miami in the first round of the NCAA Tournament<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. His senior season\u2014when he led the Trojans in scoring and was fourth in the Pac-12 (17.7 PPG on 38% 3PT)\u2014had many believing he\u2019d turn pro when it was all said and done. However, Ellis ultimately decided to return for his fifth year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 23-year-old\u2019s final season <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/usc\/story\/2024-03-07\/usc-boogie-ellis-college-basketball\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">didn\u2019t come without adversity<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. USC\u2019s captain averaged 16.5 points and three assists per game but battled through numerous injuries in the process. His <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/usctrojans.com\/news\/2023\/11\/30\/boogie-ellis-career-high-eight-3-pointers-lifts-usc-mens-basketball-in-106-78-blowout-over-eastern-washington\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">perimeter game<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is excellent, as he knocked down 38% of his threes in college. He\u2019s a threat to shoot <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/_FFwkjx0fwU?si=gWVtTItlVpYSo1E6\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">off the dribble<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from anywhere on the floor, but especially from deep. Ellis has minimal issues as an on-ball defender\u2014often fighting through screens\u2014and averaged 1.4 steals per game for USC this season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ellis has also improved as a playmaker, going from 1.5 assists per game as a freshman to three by his final year. He finds teammates at the right places and right times, showcasing his high IQ throughout. An area where Ellis\u2019s playmaking shines in is the pick-and-roll, a situation he found himself in for 64% of his possessions, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/greenlightmedia.substack.com\/p\/boogie-ellis-prospect-overview-and?r=3ptfnu&amp;utm_campaign=post&amp;utm_medium=web&amp;triedRedirect=true\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">according to Greenlight Media<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He must show that he can adjust to NBA-level speed and remain engaged at all times. His offense could translate well to the league, but his ability to stop the ball will be paramount, especially as a shorter combo guard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ellis must also improve as a finisher, which, again, is limited because of his size. He may be crafty around the rim, but shooting was his selling point. Ellis needs to get to the rim often and show he&#8217;s not deterred by the league\u2019s rim protectors. He also has to cut down on the turnovers, as he put up 1.8 per game this season and 1.7 for his career.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>NBA Comparison<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ellis\u2019s offensive prowess may remind some of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/payneca01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cam Payne<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a veteran combo guard who improved as a finisher but has been primarily known for his shooting. Ellis shares Payne\u2019s skills and stature, and could command a similar role if things work out in the NBA.
