After initially being <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/pro\/news\/caleb-love-hunter-sallis-among-nba-draft-early-entrants-despite-league-leaving-them-off-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">left off of the early entrants list<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Sallis officially declared for the draft while maintaining his eligibility.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Hunter Sallis 2024 NBA Draft Profile<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>College Career<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sallis transferred from Gonzaga and quickly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/godeacs.com\/news\/2024\/2\/15\/mens-basketball-hunter-sallis-my-wake-forest-story\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">found a home with Wake Forest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. His production was limited in his lone season as a Bulldog and first year as a Demon Deacon. However, Sallis took a major leap this season as Wake Forest\u2019s leading scorer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Starting all 34 contests, Sallis averaged 18 points and 2.5 assists per game on 48% shooting from the field, 40% from three and 78% from the free-throw line. His efforts earned him <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/godeacs.com\/news\/2024\/3\/11\/mens-basketball-sallis-garners-all-acc-accolades\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a spot on the ACC All-League First Team<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, joining several notable alumni:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sallis joins <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/godeacs.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/tyree-appleby\/6934\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tyree Appleby<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2023) and Alondes Williams (2022) as All-ACC First Team selections in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/godeacs.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/coaches\/steve-forbes\/1131\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve Forbes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> era.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This also marks the first time since 2003, 2004 and 2005 that Wake Forest has had a First Team honoree for three straight years. Sallis, Appleby and Williams join the likes of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/howarjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Josh Howard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (&#8217;03), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/international\/players\/justin-gray-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Justin Gray<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (&#8217;04) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/paulch01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chris Paul<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (&#8217;05).<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><b>Strengths<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What jumps off the page about Sallis\u2014quite literally\u2014is his athleticism. The junior is a bouncy guard who can rise up for jams often and is overall very aggressive in the paint. His <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/draft\/combine-strength-agility?SeasonYear=2024&amp;dir=D&amp;sort=MAX_VERTICAL_LEAP\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">36-inch vertical<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> allows him to pull off creative finishes in addition to his highlight dunks, and he\u2019s often the recipient of several backdoor lobs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aside from his hops. Sallis has a solid shooting form, with plenty of confidence to score from distance. Sallis\u2019s 40% mark from three came with an average of 2.2 makes per game. His 75 made threes this season was good for 12th in the ACC. Sallis can shoot off the catch and off the dribble, using impressive handles to create space. He has also improved his midrange game, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessclassroom.com\/scouting-wake-forest-guard-hunter-sallis\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">making nearly half of his attempts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from there. His athleticism and agility help a lot in this regard, as he\u2019s able to keep up with opponents, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/PYktPD5GGKA?si=k_6-LYlc93RCAv4P&amp;t=325\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">get over screens<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and block attempts from both the paint and perimeter. His 2.5 assists per game is average at best. However, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.noceilingsnba.com\/p\/consider-that-hunter-sallis-is-good\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as No Ceilings NBA noted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, he has a solid foundation when it comes to making the right reads:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHe has good timing with simple pocket passes against more aggressive coverages. His best skill is that when he goes downhill, he reads low man really well. Sallis will use this sense to determine when it\u2019s best to go for his own finish or make a last-second dump-off dish to his big man. It\u2019s not the most mesmerizing or complex game, but it\u2019s a solid foundation to build on.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another concern for Sallis is his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/nba\/news\/nba-draft-combine-results-height-wingspan-measurements-2024\/eaf7a513cdeb6e5a44c31fc4\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nimble 180-pound frame<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is going to get him pushed around on both ends of the floor at the next level. Gaining strength will be vital if he wants to assert himself as an aggressive scorer and defender.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>NBA Comparison<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sallis\u2019s game reminds of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/walkelo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lonnie Walker IV<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with his athleticism, improved shooting, and defensive chops. Both put the ball in the basket at a breakneck pace and in a variety of ways, with Walker having several scoring outbursts in recent years.
