Every drill he participated in was closely watched. Surprisingly, he did not disappoint.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scouts were impressed not only with his athleticism but also with his team play during scrimmages. He hit open shots, played solid defense, and checked many boxes. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/LAL\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los Angeles Lakers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Vice President Rob Pelinka was in the stands to watch Bronny. His performance at the combine significantly boosted his draft stock. But that hasn\u2019t helped dissipate the pressure and expectation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Bronny James Offers a Blunt Response to All The Scrutiny<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Bronny James\u2019 Draft Stock Rises<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Initially ranked No. 98 on ESPN\u2019s Top 100, Bronny shot up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/draft\/bestavailable\/_\/position\/ovr\/page\/3\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">No. 54<\/a>, and now has a strong case for a second-round pick in the NBA draft.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Initially, Bronny wasn&#8217;t among the top standouts of the 78 prospects invited to the combine. He was more middle-of-the-pack. But by the end, he showed he belonged there. Living in the shadow of his superstar father<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> LeBron James<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been both a blessing and a curse for Bronny.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James Sr. recently hinted he might not think much about teaming up with his son in the NBA. Even though he could become a free agent this summer, the Lakers superstar recently changed his view on Bronny&#8217;s future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bronny saw the combine as a chance to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/05\/13\/sports\/bronny-james-expected-to-stay-in-nba-draft-after-being-medically-cleared\/#\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">showcase<\/a> his hard work since his first season at USC.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cRich Paul\u2019s goal here in the pre-draft process for Bronny James is to see if there\u2019s the right developmental organization, a place that can take a young player like Bronny James \u2026 If he does go in the draft, he very likely would spend next year in the G League.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the priority for them as a family. What\u2019s best for Bronny James? If it ends up them together, that would be great, but I don\u2019t get a sense it\u2019s playing much of any role in LeBron James\u2019 decision on next season.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bronny used the combine to step out of his father\u2019s shadow to showcase himself. Getting exposure to the media gave him the opportunity to <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.sports.yahoo.com\/news\/james-focused-nba-dream-not-094048694.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">speak<\/a> on a personal level.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;My dream has always just been to put my name out, make a name for myself, and of course get to the NBA, which is everyone&#8217;s goal here.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James has conquered a lot. But there is much left for the young man to achieve.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Dealing With The Overbearing Criticism<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite being initially ranked around the middle, Bronny put up impressive numbers: a 40.5-inch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/draft\/combine-strength-agility?sort=MAX_VERTICAL_LEAP&amp;dir=1&amp;SeasonYear=2024\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vertical leap<\/a>, ranking fifth among participants, and a stellar 19-25 in the 3-point shooting drill, placing him second overall. His <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nba\/news\/2024-nba-draft-combine-measurements-bronny-james-comes-up-short-on-height-but-aces-shooting-drills\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">measurements<\/a> were also notable \u2014 standing 6-foot-1 without shoes, with a wingspan of 6&#8217;7&#8243; 1\u20444, and weighing 210 pounds.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He had a solid performance in the drills and effective play in scrimmages, where he showed promise by hitting open shots and playing enthusiastic defense. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, that doesn\u2019t dismiss the fact that James had had to <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/bronny-james-says-tough-being-184345389.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">deal with a lot<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s tough,\u201d James said with a grin on his face. A lot of criticism gets thrown my way, but I got to deal with it. You know what I\u2019ve been through. But yeah, I just try to make the best of my opportunities that are given.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An NBA team will most likely chance on him.
