Oklahoma City Thunder wing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dortlu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lu Dort<\/a> (6) and Boston Celtics wing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaylen Brown<\/a> (3) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NBAPR\/status\/1792978747563581510\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">received multiple first-place votes<\/a>, but didn\u2019t make the cut. Thunder guard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gilgesh01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shai Gilgeous-Alexander<\/a> also won six first-place votes. However, despite leading the NBA in steals, he didn\u2019t make either All-Defensive team either.<\/p>\n<h3>First Team<\/h3>\n<p>The All-Defensive First Team is headlined by San Antonio Spurs rookie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wembavi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victor Wembanyama<\/a> and Minnesota Timberwolves center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/goberru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rudy Gobert<\/a>. The latter also came away with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/05\/08\/rudy-gobert-fourth-dpoy-award-grants-hall-fame-status\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">2024 Defensive Player of the Year Award<\/a>. It\u2019s his fourth time receiving the trophy.<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles Lakers big man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/davisan02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Davis<\/a>, New Orleans Pelicans swingman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/joneshe01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Herb Jones<\/a>, and Miami Heat center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/adebaba01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bam Adebayo<\/a> made the First Team as well. Adebayo, like Gobert and Wembanyama, was a Defensive Player of the Year Award finalist. One has to wonder if he or Davis feels vindicated by this recognition. It\u2019s a fitting end to one of the most historic rookie seasons in NBA history. Interestingly, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Wemby_Muse\/status\/1792978899435147643\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the last two rookies<\/a> to make All-Defensive Second Team \u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/duncati01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tim Duncan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/robinda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Robinson<\/a> \u2014also played for the Spurs.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">San Antonio&#8217;s Victor Wembanyama is the first rookie to be selected to the Kia NBA All-Defensive First Team. He\u2019s recorded at least 100 steals and 40 blocks in every season. Notably, the Boston Celtics have two representatives in the second team with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holidjr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jrue Holiday<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/whitede01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Derrick White<\/a>. Yet, with the Magic\u2019s backcourt logjam and Suggs\u2019s slow development, he didn\u2019t enter the season with high expectations. The wily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcdanja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaden McDaniels<\/a> makes would-be scorers wilt with suffocating defense that\u2019s been <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/05\/07\/timberwolves-anthony-edwards-jaden-mcdaniels-x-factor-game-2-blowout\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">highlighted throughout the playoffs<\/a>.
