Along with recent reports that the team is a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/05\/14\/los-angeles-lakers-pursuing-5x-nba-all-star-donovan-mitchell\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">frontrunner<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mitchdo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Donovan Mitchell<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, The Athletic\u2019s Jovan Buha provided a notable update on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reaveau01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Austin Reaves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s status within the organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Lakers Trade Rumors: Team&#8217;s Plans for Austin Reaves Revealed<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Latest on Austin Reaves<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the latest episode of his podcast \u201cBuha\u2019s Block,\u201d Jovan Buha discussed potential roster-building paths in the offseason. The issue that has continually emerged is whether to make smaller upgrades or go all out for a third star. Buha noted that of all of the team\u2019s \u201ctradable contracts,\u201d Reaves\u2019 is the most valuable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the Lakers still \u201clove\u201d Austin Reaves, Buha revealed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/IKrHof443ks?si=VgKfKeQ48c41yOgr&amp;t=1462\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a catch in the team\u2019s plans for the 25-year-old<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIf there was a scenario in which they would consider trading him, it would have to be for a bonafide All-Star, an All-NBA caliber guy. That will be put to the test this offseason, depending on which direction the Lakers go.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The standout shooting guard succeeded despite several obstacles thrown at him this season. Playing all 82 games\u2014and starting 57 of them\u2014Reaves averaged nearly 16 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game on .486\/.367\/.853 splits. He got into a great rhythm after the trade deadline, with his scoring hitting double digits from Feb. 8 to the end of March. In that time, he put up <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/nba\/ask?q=austin+reaves+stats+feb+8%2C+2024+to+march+31%2C+2024\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">17.1 points, 6.3 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reaves also played well despite LA\u2019s first-round exit, posting 16.8 points per game on 47% shooting from the field and attempting to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LakersLegacyPod\/status\/1785660780274405876\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will the Lakers himself<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the closing moments of game five. As Buha noted, Reaves appears to be the MVP of LA\u2019s assets, and a deal may not happen if he isn\u2019t included.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, some have also pointed out that moving on from Reaves\u2014even if it\u2019s for a star\u2014would be the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/carusal01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alex Caruso<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> debacle all over again. Fans are convinced that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/prabhakar_noah\/status\/1790451155283107958\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reaves could still thrive even if Mitchell\u00a0ends up a Laker<\/a>. He spent part of his third year\u201434% of his minutes\u2014at point guard, and fulfilled that role to a tee.
