Amid the wild times of the 2024 playoffs, the NBA released the tiebreakers for this year\u2019s draft on Monday, with the 47-35 Lakers being in a four-way tiebreaker with the 76ers, Magic and Pacers.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>2024 NBA Draft: Lakers Place in First Round Revealed<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Lakers\u2019 First-Round Pick<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, the Lakers will be picking 17th in the 2024 NBA Draft, finishing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LakersReporter\/status\/1782526538249802072\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">second in that tiebreaker behind Philadelphia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are plenty of discussions around the Lakers\u2019 offseason plans, including whether they\u2019d keep or trade the first-round pick. A deal could still be on the table, depending on the interest of another \u201cthird star hunt.\u201d However, judging by this season, the Lakers could also spend that first-round pick on a talented rookie who could help them right away.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Positions of Need<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The biggest need for the Lakers is at center. It\u2019s been proven in this series and throughout the year that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/davisan02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anthony Davis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> needs a reliable backup if he gets hurt or into foul trouble, just as he did last night. His current backups, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hayesja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jaxson Hayes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/woodch01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christian Wood<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, have been polarizing, to say the least. Hayes has been too inconsistent in meaningful minutes, while Wood is ramping up towards a return from knee surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other options would be the shooting guard or small forward positions, as the Lakers\u2019 injuries left them decimated at these spots at various points throughout the year. The team could use a younger guard or forward who can roam the perimeter while making effective shots. This year\u2019s draft class has plenty of guards and wings who fit that profile.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Potential Options<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One target the Lakers should consider is Indiana big man <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/kelel-ware-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kel\u2019el Ware<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The 7-footer is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/4-eiULN6h7w?si=uIM7CmMvxdA97t8w\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a double-double machine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who can space the floor as a respectable three-point shooter. Ware averaged 16 points and ten rebounds per game in 30 appearances as a sophomore. He shot 58% shooting from the field, 42% from deep and 63% from the line. Ware was also named to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldtimesonline.com\/story\/sports\/college\/iu\/2024\/03\/12\/indiana-basketball-big-ten-postseason-awards-kelel-ware-malik-reneau-2023-2024\/72947137007\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All-Big Ten second team and an All-Defensive selection<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, averaging nearly two blocks per game. Several draft boards have him mocked to the late-teens. In 35 games for the Bears, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/big-12-freshman-ja-kobe-030207384.html#:~:text=Walter%20was%20named%20the%20Big,All%2DBig%2012%20third%20team.\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Big 12 Freshman of the Year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> averaged 14.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals on .376\/.341\/.792 splits. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/10116891-2024-nba-mock-draft-2-round-predictions-with-lottery-odds-set\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bleacher Report\u2019s latest mock draft<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had him going 19th overall and added:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAfter struggling during the Big 12 tournament, Ja&#8217;Kobe Walter scored 19 and 20 points against Colgate and Clemson, respectively, in the NCAAs. He showed exactly what the scouting report read all season: catch-and-shoot shotmaking, physical line-driving and limited creativity off the dribble.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Walter\u2019s three-level scoring and defensive potential are key areas the Lakers should notice as the NBA Draft gets closer. His offense could be an ideal fit to boost a struggling bench, while his issues guarding the ball can get fixed with time.
