Before Wednesday’s victory against his old allies, the Toronto Raptors, Schroder said he wants to stay in Brooklyn beyond this season:

“Of course. I always want to be stationed somewhere where people show me appreciation,” Schroeder told The Post before scoring 21 points in Wednesday’s win. “And I felt that from the first day — people reaching out to my family, to my wife, to my mom. That shows, OK, they really want me. And the playing style, as well, I like. They trust me, in what I am capable of. And of course I want to stay.

Additionally. the 30-year-old spoke about wanting “to build something special” with the Nets:

I know the business side of it as well. So, I’m not taking anything emotional or personal. I know how it is. But at the end of the day, of course I want to stay here. I met Joe [Tsai], the owner, his wife, his kid. And of course I want to build something special here. Everything they say, I’m preaching the same thing. And I’m the same player that they’re looking for, and it would be great to stay, for sure.

Schroder is under contract through next season as well, but he is set to hit unrestricted free agency in 2025. The guard joined the Nets after the Raptors traded him at the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline for Spencer Dinwiddie. In 29 games with Brooklyn so far, Schroder is averaging 14.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 6 assists per game. Furthermore, he is shooting a career-high 41.2% from the three-point line.

Currently, the Nets are 32-48 and own the No. 11 seed in the Western Conference. Though they are out of the playoff picture, the team is filled with talented players who could push for a playoff spot next season.

Brooklyn Nets Veteran Hoping to Remain With Team Next Season

What Dennis Schroder Brings to the Nets

Since he joined the league in 2013, Schroder is the most experienced player on the team. Additionally, he has been to the Conference Finals two separate times. This experience is always valuable to any team, especially to a middle-tier one like Brooklyn. Furthermore, on the court, Schroder has played well with the Nets. He is a good scorer who can create his own shot from anywhere on the court. Plus, he is still relatively athletic and is a decent enough defender. It will be interesting to see what Brooklyn does with their head coach, however. The team fired Jacque Vaughn in February and promoted Kevin Ollie to interim head coach. Ollie currently has an 11-15 record with the team. Depending on who the head coach is next season, Schroder could remain a great fit for the Nets’ playstyle.

Should Brooklyn Bring Dennis Schroder Back?

The Nets are certainly more talented than their record shows. That said, they likely won’t be a serious threat in the East for a long time. At 30 years old, Schroder realistically only has a few years remaining as a regular contributor. However, he has been great with the team and clearly enjoys his time there. If Schroder wants to stay, then by all means, the Nets would be wise to keep him around.

Although he’s only been with the team for two months, guard Dennis Schroder has seemingly already found a home with the Brooklyn Nets.
