LeBron\u2019s statements come on the heels of major stories related to the Lakers\u2019 upcoming summer, as they will soon have to make several decisions around his pending free agency. How do his latest remarks impact the rest of this season and LA’s future plans?<\/span><\/p>\n

Lakers News: What LeBron’s Comments Mean for LA Going Forward<\/h2>\n

As part of his media availability at All-Star weekend, James <\/span>acknowledged the elephant in the room<\/span><\/a> about a potential retirement, unsure about whether he wants a formal farewell tour or to announce it in the offseason. He is, however, certain about his feelings as a Laker:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>I am a Laker, I am happy and have been very happy being a Laker these last six years, and hopefully it stays that way.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The remarks come on the heels of additional reporting from The Athletic, in which a team source told beat writer Jovan Buha that <\/span>LA\u2019s \u201cpreference is for James to retire with the Lakers.\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

James\u2019s comments should still sound some alarms for the remainder of this season. The Lakers have had a fantastic February, going 6-1 prior to the All-Star break ahead of a tough stretch to follow. With <\/span>reinforcements potentially returning in the coming weeks<\/span><\/a>, James, <\/span>Anthony Davis<\/span><\/a>, and co. have plenty to look forward to. However, again, it won’t come easy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The main reason why LeBron\u2019s statements matter is because they reinforce the sense of urgency with which LA should attack the coming months. The team is looking to build off the energy they\u2019ve created with their success in the past few weeks, all in hopes of climbing out of the Play-in tournament and being one of the West\u2019s top six seeds prior to the playoffs. The Lakers do have two second-round picks they could use to land him if they choose.
