Some reports said they were frontrunners to land him, while insider Marc Stein revealed\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2024\/01\/steins-latest-lakers-murray-tv-deal-tillman-j-allen.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a deal is \u201cunrealistic\u201d as of now<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/russeda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">D\u2019Angelo Russell<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s recent play has made the Lakers think twice about moving him. Meanwhile, Hawks head coach Quin Snyder is reportedly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BasketballOnX\/status\/1752060561427485014\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">asking the Hawks to keep Murray around<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the trade deadline a little over a week away, there\u2019s still a chance that a deal materializes. The Athletic\u2019s Jovan Buha reported that LA and Atlanta could get help from another Eastern Conference team. It\u2019s one that the Lakers, and especially Russell, are all too familiar with.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>NBA Rumors: This Team Could Help the Lakers Land Dejounte Murray<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>The Third Team in Question<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hoopshype.com\/lists\/lakers-rumors-dejounte-murray-trade-targets-dangelo-russell-lebron-james-darvin-ham\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recent episode of the HoopsHype Podcast<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Buha posited that the Brooklyn Nets could be the third team to get Los Angeles over the hump:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You mentioned some of the names I heard out there. Brooklyn, Charlotte, Washington. Detroit and San Antonio also could get involved. It has to be a team willing to take on some bad money, likely a lottery team, that\u2019ll look to recoup assets from the Lakers in the form of a second-round pick or two or a future pick swap.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lakers had also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/01\/20\/nba-rumors-lakers-trading-for-surprise-point-guard\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expressed interest in<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dinwisp01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spencer Dinwiddie<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the frustrated lead guard for the Nets, in addition to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2023\/12\/28\/nba-trade-rumors-lakers-could-pursue-two-nets-forwards\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two of their other wings<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can the Lakers potentially expand that deal and try to get <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spencer Dinwiddie<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dorian Finney-Smith<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Royce O\u2019Neale<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/insider\/insider\/story\/_\/id\/39408945\/2024-nba-trade-deadline-six-big-trades-want-see-lakers-hawks-nets-knicks-76ers\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ESPN analyst Kevin Pelton proposed a three-team trade<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that involved the Nets, but it\u2019s not what fans were expecting.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Lakers receive:<\/strong> Dejounte Murray<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Hawks receive:<\/strong> Spencer Dinwiddie, 2029 first-round pick\u00a0(via Lakers)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Nets receive:<\/strong> D\u2019Angelo Russell<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pelton outlined his reasoning for including Brooklyn in this deal, which, in theory, makes sense:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enter the Nets, who could bring Russell home to prop up their ailing offense. Russell&#8217;s lone All-Star appearance came as part of a young Brooklyn team similar in many ways to the current group. With Dinwiddie slumping this season, Russell would be a massive offensive upgrade for the Nets, who can comfortably handle his 2024-25 player option.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><b>Is This the Right Addition for the Lakers and Hawks?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hawks were reportedly holding out for a player better than Russell. Dinwiddie is not that guy, but he\u2019d at least help the Hawks as a combo guard who can get hot in a hurry and complement <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/y\/youngtr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trae Young<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the backcourt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A trade like this could be a good start for the Lakers, but LA should also ask Brooklyn for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/o\/onealro01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Royce O\u2019Neale<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/finnedo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dorian Finney-Smith<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0to make the move for Murray worthwhile. Either of them would be a far better fit than <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/princta02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taurean Prince<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, whose production as a starter leaves a lot more to be desired. They would also patch up some holes in the Lakers\u2019 wing department, mainly three-point shooting and frontcourt defense. The Lakers won\u2019t be able to get greedy and acquire Murray and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dinwiddie<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the same trade, so bringing in one of Brooklyn\u2019s forwards would be a worthy compromise.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I\u2019m not arguing for a Murray trade by any means, but if we\u2019re gonna make one this is the best option. However, they may be open to a separate deal that lands one (or both) of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bogdabo02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bogdan Bogdanovic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/burksal01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alec Burks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That said, the Lakers have long coveted both Bogdanovi\u0107 and Burks, individually, so I think they\u2019d be interested in trying to find a framework along these lines. I think they would counter with something like Hachimura, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nba\/player\/gabe-vincent-Y9l1aCpQq6Y3j7qJ\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gabe Vincent<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Christie and a first-rounder. The Pistons probably wouldn\u2019t accept that. I don\u2019t see a clear trade between these two that lands Reaves in Detroit. But I could see something more realistic in which the Lakers give up some combination of players and a first for Bogdanovi\u0107, if Detroit is open to it.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That leaves the Washington Wizards as this trade\u2019s second option, and a good one at that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lakers have shown interest in veteran point guard <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jonesty01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tyus Jones<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who is on an expiring contract and making $14 million. The Wizards are still making moves towards their rebuild, so taking on Russell and his contract would be an ideal situation for them and the Lakers. The lone issue in this is what Washington would send Atlanta, unless the Wizards are open to moving on from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gaffoda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daniel Gafford<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or another rotation player. It may be tough for the Lakers to swing both Murray and Jones, but fans should still trust Rob Pelinka and the tricks he has up his sleeve.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Last Word<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between the Nets, Pistons and Wizards, fans should hope that Brooklyn tries to bring Russell back so the Lakers can land Murray\u2014if that\u2019s still the plan.
