The postgame environment immediately signaled that something was up, and The Athletic later revealed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/01\/04\/lakers-rumors-darvin-hams-job-security-in-jeopardy\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the extent of the tensions within the purple and gold\u2019s locker room<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Friday\u2019s postgame presser was the first one in which <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lakersnation.com\/lakers-news-darvin-ham-aligned-with-jeanie-buss-rob-pelinka-despite-recent-reports-regarding-job-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ham directly addressed the rumors<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> surrounding his standing within the organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNah, it comes with the territory. I\u2019m solid. My governor, Jeanie Buss, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the boss lady, our president, Robert Pelinka, we\u2019re all aligned. As long as they\u2019re not saying it, I guess, I\u2019m good. Which I know how they feel about me in the situation we\u2019re currently in. So we\u2019re all on the same page.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4><b>The Athletic Story<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ham also addressed The Athletic\u2019s reporting and their use of anonymous sources:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c&#8230;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it\u2019s kind of disingenuous and I wish we would get to a place where people are firm enough to stand on what they\u2019re saying. Then maybe we can have real dialogue and get to it. I don\u2019t mind people critiquing the job I\u2019m doing. All I\u2019m gonna do is continue to do my job until I can\u2019t do it anymore.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also encouraged the reporters in the room to ensure they have their facts straight in their stories:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So just be solid with what you\u2019re putting out there and please don\u2019t intertwine it with personal attacks either. That\u2019s what it is, that\u2019s what I signed up for when I decided to become a coach. I\u2019ve been around some great guys that handle it well and some coaches that haven\u2019t handled it so well. But me, I\u2019m solid. I\u2019ve been through a ton of ish in my life. This is a walk in the park, trust me.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4><b>Ham and the Lakers\u2019 Mentality Going Forward<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amid the Lakers\u2019 struggles, Ham noted that this skid ignited a fire within him to be better:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Darvin Ham: &quot;I&#39;m in this thing for the fight. And I&#39;m not going to hang my head or anything, I&#39;m disappointed we lost, disappointed that we have lost multiple games now in a row. Focus on how we can get better. Whatever the mistakes are, whatever went wrong, look at it, analyze, and try to correct it. That\u2019s it. You have to be solution-based, and you definitely have to be numb to whatever is going on outside. They\u2019re not Lakers, then don\u2019t pay attention to it. Just lock in on us, and try to see how we can be the best version of ourselves through our work\u2014our daily work.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><b>Ham\u2019s Message to Lakers Fans<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the course of Ham\u2019s remarks, he mentioned the team\u2019s body language as the Grizzlies remained hot from the field despite tough defense. He included a jab towards fans and their apparent overreactions:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou have to look at the totality of the picture. <\/span><b>I\u2019m tired of people living and dying with every single game we play. Ham has preached about the need to figure things out and not be discouraged. But perhaps he was just compensating for the team\u2019s poor play (and his poor decisions) while serving as the eternal optimist. This dig at fans is the first time he\u2019s called out people outside of the organization\u2014he had <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/10102606-lakers-darvin-ham-calls-out-cam-reddish-vanderbilt-cant-be-confused-with-ball\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">publicly criticized<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vandeja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jarred Vanderbilt<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reddica01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Cam Reddish<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a few weeks ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This wrinkle is the latest sign of turmoil that continues to seep out of the Lakers locker room. Ham is correct that people continually react after games, but it\u2019s because they have, as mentioned earlier, a high standard of excellence for Lakers basketball. Right now, this team is far from it, leading to the justified reactions of the Laker faithful.
