South Bay just wrapped up Winter Showcase play last week, going 8-8 in that span.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the South Bay Lakers\u2019 regular season continues, it\u2019s worth looking at three players on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gleague.nba.com\/twowayplayers\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two-Way Contracts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/castlco01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Colin Castleton<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/fudgeal01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Alex Fudge<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hodgedm01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>D\u2019Moi Hodge<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014and examining how they\u2019ve played so far.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Checking in on the Lakers\u2019 Two-Way Rookies<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Colin Castleton<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A center who turned heads in Summer League, Colin Castleton is off to a great start in the G League. The 6-foot-11 center averaged 18.7 points and 11.4 rebounds in the Showcase. He also shot 60% from the field and 75% from the free-throw line. One of Castleton\u2019s notable performances came against the G League Ignite on Nov. 25, when he recorded <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/igjEIdnVyuc?si=8jLo7_Ta1tDfOzrr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">27 points, 12 rebounds and five assists<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/Ct6q2YAhf7o?si=YAB8pnYBopfUnMtR<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Castleton has steadily improved on both ends of the floor, proving he can dominate against G League competition. Aside from his ability to score and protect the rim (1.6 BPG), Castleton has also stood out as a playmaker, averaging 3.5 assists per game so far. He\u2019s only played four games of garbage time for the LA Lakers, but he&#8217;s raised eyebrows with his efficiency in the G League. With the Lakers\u2019 center position in flux behind <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/davisan02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Anthony Davis<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it may be worth considering Castleton for some more opportunities with the purple and gold.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Alex Fudge<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Former Florida wing Alex Fudge came into the league as a bit of a wild card. He displayed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SouthBayLakers\/status\/1740566190639256050\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">excellent athleticism<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but was also seen as a very raw prospect, ultimately going undrafted and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lakersnation.com\/lakers-rumors-alex-fudge-being-signed-to-two-way-contract\/#:~:text=Fudge%20originally%20signed%20an%20Exhibit,4.5%20rebounds%20in%2019.3%20minutes.\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">landing with the Lakers via a training camp invite<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Since joining the South Bay Lakers on a two-way deal, Fudge has found a solid role. He averaged 8.8 points per game in the G League Showcase on 48% shooting from the field and 33% from deep. However, he has made a bigger impact on defense, blocking nearly two shots per game. His solid start to the year could result in more minutes with the Lakers. For now, he\u2019s put people on notice\u2014and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nbagleague\/status\/1731062794446114959\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posters<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014with his elite bounce, and he&#8217;ll be appearing in more highlight reels as the G League season continues.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>D\u2019Moi Hodge<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, 6-foot-4 shooting guard D\u2019Moi Hodge has seen the most NBA opportunities of the three, playing seven games under Darvin Ham. He got some playing time in LA\u2019s loss to the Spurs on Dec. 15, tallying five points (2\/3 FG, 1\/2 3PT) and three assists in eight minutes. Hodge averaged 12.3 points in the G League Showcase on .397\/.304\/.853 splits\u2014not great, but not terrible, either. His early highlight of the season came in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nbagleague\/status\/1730784213723668715\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">35-point outburst<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> against the Salt Lake City Stars on Dec. 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"A Career-High Night For D&#039;moi Hodge Who Dropped 35 PTS in South Bay Win!\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a1Nj5E0suIg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hodge is known as a 3-and-D guard, and even garnered comparisons to ex-Laker <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/caldwke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Kentavious Caldwell-Pope<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over the summer. He\u2019s displayed an impressive array of shooting and cutting on offense, while holding his own defensively (1.7 steals and 0.7 blocks per game in Showcase play). Hodge has a higher chance for increased opportunities with the Lakers, which would be helpful given their well-chronicled shooting woes. That case will only grow as Hodge continues to succeed with South Bay.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Last Word<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, the Lakers&#8217; two-way players have made good impressions at both the NBA and G League levels.
