In this edition of NBA rumors<\/a> and news, I will look at the recent happenings surrounding James Bouknight’s<\/strong><\/a> injury and how it affects his status with the Charlotte Hornets. I also look at the roles of two rookies.<\/p>\n

NBA Rumors: James Bouknight, Josh Hart, Sidy Cissoko and Gradey Dick, Plus More<\/h2>\n

James Bouknight To Undergo Surgery<\/h3>\n

Bouknight suffered a left knee strain last w<\/a>eek while participating in training camp late last week. Early last night, the Hornets announced that the 23-year-old guard will undergo arthroscopic surgery<\/a> on Wednesday to repair a meniscus injury.\u00a0 The team said that Bouknight will be reevaluated in four weeks. Therefore, he will likely miss the first month of the NBA season.<\/p>\n

Bouknight has struggled since being tabbed with the No. 11 pick in the 2021 draft. The 23-year-old has compiled 5.6 points and a shooting slashing of .353\/.316\/.770 in 65 games over the last two seasons.<\/p>\n

Bouknight also struggled shooting during Summer League action. He scored in double-figures in four of his six games, including pouring in 28 in the Hornets\u2019 final game in Las Vegas. However, Bouknight shot only\u00a0 38.4% from the field and 23.1% from the 3-point line.<\/p>\n

With the team’s announcement about when he will be re-evaluated, it is now known the 6-5 wing has made the 15-man roster — not that he was in real jeopardy. However, it has yet to be determined what role Bouknight will have when he returns if he has a role.<\/p>\n

Regardless of what happens when Bouknight returns, the injury puts his future with the organization that much more in doubt. The Hornets have until October 31 to decide whether to pick up his $6 million option for the 2024-25 campaign. While the Hornets would likely pass anyway, his unavailability through the rest of preseason sealed that fate.<\/p>\n

Sidy Cissoko to Spend Most of the Season In G-League<\/h3>\n

The San Antonio Spurs selected French teenager Sidy Cissoko<\/strong><\/a>, the No. 44 pick in this past June’s draft, with an eye toward the future. Still, the Spurs signed the 19-year-old to a three-year standard contract rather than a two-year, two-way pact.<\/p>\n
