They finally determined who will start at point guard, ending a debate between two talented facilitators. Additionally, LA has emerged as a suitor for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2023\/09\/27\/nba-rumors-four-teams-that-could-trade-for-jrue-holiday\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recently traded<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holidjr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jrue Holiday<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Lakers News: D\u2019Angelo Russell Named Starter, Team Interested in Jrue Holiday<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Darvin Ham: D\u2019Angelo Russell is the Starting PG<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After speculation about who would be the Lakers\u2019 lead guard\u2014a race between the incumbent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/russeda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>D\u2019Angelo Russell<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and newcomer <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vincega01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Gabe Vincent<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014the team has decided on the former.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Russell returned to the Lakers after six years of shuffling around the league. He had a productive second stint with LA. The 27-year-old showed how well he meshed with James and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/davisan02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Anthony Davis<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> last season, recording a net rating of 20.4 (123.4 on offense, 103 on defense). Russell also proved himself as an electric scorer and facilitator, complementing the rest of the team with his play style. D\u2019Lo\u2019s leadership has been apparent throughout the season and subsequent summer, a skill that Darvin Ham greatly appreciates:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He&#8217;s been great with his communication all summer. Seeing him in workouts and pickup games; he&#8217;s vocal, he&#8217;s encouraging the new guys; he had a couple workouts just with LeBron and AD.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lakers beat reporter Mike Trudell summarized Pelinka\u2019s thoughts on Russell\u2019s growth:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pelinka also praised his offseason, and how hard he worked in the weight room to gain some strength in his shoulders, and noted the immediate way in which Russell helped balance the Lakers roster last February (+12.2 net rating in the regular season).<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Russell\u2019s spot secured next to standout shooting guard\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reaveau01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Austin Reaves<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, that means Vincent will be coming off the bench. Vincent\u2019s career bench stats\u20145.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 127 games\u2014aren&#8217;t great at first glance. However, his growth as a player cannot be denied. He has turned into a reliable starter, especially during the postseason. Vincent put up 12.7 points and 3.5 assists on .402\/.378\/.882 splits during Miami\u2019s Finals run. His willingness to buy in as a \u201csixth man\u201d for the Lakers will be pivotal for the team\u2019s success.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lakers\u2019 trust in Russell ironically comes with an intriguing trade rumor.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Lakers Interested in Jrue Holiday<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following Jrue Holiday&#8217;s move to the Blazers, a list of contenders are eyeing his services, and Portland is moving quickly on a deal. One of those teams, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/sports\/nba\/miami-heat\/article279852404.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">according to the Miami Herald<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is Holiday\u2019s hometown Lakers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maxpreps.com\/ca\/north-hollywood\/campbell-hall-vikings\/athletes\/jrue-holiday\/?careerid=8thgv24644u55\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Holiday played for Studio City\u2019s Campbell Hall School<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and he is known as one of the top NBA players from Southern California. He remained in SoCal, spending a year with UCLA, and has gone on to have a storied 14-year career with the 76ers, Pelicans and the aforementioned Bucks. With another stop on the horizon, Holiday is open to a homecoming with the purple and gold, per the Herald.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But as far as a trade to the Lakers, it\u2019s harder than it looks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If LA\u2019s interest in Holiday is reciprocated by the Blazers, it means another waiting game begins. Russell, the presumed cornerstone of such a package, cannot be traded until Dec. 15. The same goes for over half of LA\u2019s roster, limiting the team&#8217;s efforts if they become serious about a deal. The Blazers, meanwhile, would have to shift their stance on moving Holiday, who would have to be comfortable backing up <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hendesc01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Scoot Henderson<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the first half of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While a Holiday-Lakers pairing sounds excellent, it is simply not feasible given Portland\u2019s current desires and LA\u2019s current trajectory.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Last Word<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lakers are starting to put it all together as training camp looms. Their offseason work has the potential to pay off in a big way, and all signs point to a promising year.
