Hence why the play-in tournament is usually more interesting than the first round itself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gr bg gs gt gu gv\">Thus, it is no surprise that predicting the outcomes in this range is difficult. However, it shouldn\u2019t be without attempt.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s our shot at the probable NBA play-in teams for next season.<\/p>\n<h2>NBA 2023\u201324 Power Rankings, Part 3: The Play-in teams<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"8ad2\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\">20. Indiana Pacers<\/h3>\n<p id=\"e0c7\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The Pacers are a solid team, who could indeed be playoff contenders in due time. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/halibty01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Tyrese Haliburton<\/strong><\/a> is an All-NBA level talent, whose impressive passing skills have already been put on display. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hieldbu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buddy Hield<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/turnemy01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Myles Turner<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownbr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bruce Brown<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mathube01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Benedict Mathurin<\/a><\/strong> round out the rest of the Pacers core, providing an adequate combination of shooting complemented by defense. Definitely a team to watch for in coming seasons, and one who could potentially sneak in the play-in now.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5ea6\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">So, what prevents Indiana from ranking higher on this list?<\/p>\n<p id=\"76ee\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Sure, the Pacers have a solid starting lineup. Only problem being, that the personnel off the bench simply isn\u2019t very productive.<\/p>\n<p id=\"1e00\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Many of the Pacers veterans off the pine, are way past their heyday, and aren\u2019t likely to contribute at this stage of their career. This results in a significantly weaker bench lineup come April, where depth reigns over all. The Pacers weakest link lies here, where opponents will constantly look to exploit the disadvantage. If Indiana wishes for a promotion in such rankings, adding extra scoring and playmaking off the pine is a must. If not, they\u2019ll continue to find themselves in the race for the play-in for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"236a\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\">19. Chicago Bulls<\/h3>\n<p id=\"a3b5\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Contrary to the ever-churning rumor mill, both <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lavinza01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zach Lavine<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/derozde01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Demar DeRozan<\/a><\/strong> will retain their Bulls gear for now. So, despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/balllo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Lonzo Ball<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s absence for the entirety of the coming year, Chicago will at least have an All-Star tandem in tow to keep them competitive. Not a bad consolation prize by any means. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vucevni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nikola Vucevic<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/carusal01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Caruso<\/a><\/strong>, and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/drumman01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andre Drummond<\/a> <\/strong>headline the remaining rotation, in hopes that their expertise will translate to success for the Windy City.<\/p>\n<p id=\"c394\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">It might, but only moderately.<\/p>\n<p id=\"1814\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Lonzo\u2019s absence here is always going to be a significant missing piece to Chicago\u2019s puzzle. The Bulls were one of the best NBA teams in the East when he last played, as his playmaking worked wonders. Lavine and DeRozan were able to find their spots effortlessly, and the teams defense was equally as efficient.<\/p>\n<p id=\"df0c\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Caruso likely won\u2019t be able to replicate such play now, as he deals with injury concerns of his own. Vucevic and Drummond have been around for some time now, and their production has begun to decline. This leaves Chicago without much of a supporting cast surrounding their aging stars. Both Derozan and Lavine are still capable of playing at a high level, which makes Chicago a viable pick for the play-in. It would be a surprise to expect anything more though.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"b766\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\">18. Oklahoma City Thunder<\/h3>\n<p id=\"85d4\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The Thunder have been one of the most component organizations statewide since their move to OKC, fielding one competitive team after another. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gilgesh01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Shai Gilgeous-Alexander<\/strong>\u2019<\/a>s All-Star emergence ensures that this streak will continue for now. Chet Holmgren will make his debut this season, with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dortlu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lu Dort<\/a><\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/giddejo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Josh Giddey<\/strong><\/a>, and others already ready to go. Yet another young team whose true potential can only be assessed in a year or two.<\/p>\n<p id=\"b090\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">What\u2019s holding OKC back right now is simply their experience. Or lack thereof. Everyone on this team has only been around for a year or two, and have never seen true playoff action. This is an obviously important factor come playoff time, where veteran players will look to take advantage using their expertise. A quality that can only be obtained with time, and is what currently keeps OKC away from real postseason contention. As the Thunder continue to develop, this will likely change. OKC could be one of the premier NBA teams in the league eventually, but that might take a few years.<\/p>\n<p id=\"4b08\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">For now, they\u2019ll have to settle for a spot somewhere around here.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"4e67\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\">17. Atlanta Hawks<\/h3>\n<p id=\"d4c2\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The Hawks are a team who are constantly expected to fade away, yet somehow still stick around. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/y\/youngtr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trae Young<\/a><\/strong> is still going strong, as are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/murrade01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Dejounte Murray<\/strong><\/a> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/capelca01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clint Capela<\/a><\/strong>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/huntede01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">De&#8217;Andre Hunter<\/a><\/strong> brings a 3-and-D skillset to the table as well, which continues to present be a tough matchup. The Hawks will be a decent team as always, just not much more.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ca79\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">If Atlanta truly wishes to escape where they are now, it will take some key acquisitions. Not a star necessarily, but at least some role players that can pick up slack when needed. Both Young and Murray are rather skinny, and get overpowered by opposing offenses on a regular. Adding defense that can hang with the best scorers in the league could do wonders for ATL. Until then, they\u2019ll continue to find themselves amidst the race of \u201cNBA\u2019s most average\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"b744\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\">16. New Orleans Pelicans<\/h3>\n<p id=\"6a79\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The Pelicans are one of the weirdest teams in the league. If everything goes right, they\u2019re one of the better teams out there. However it usually doesn\u2019t, and they end up not even making the playoffs. Or losing in the play-in.<\/p>\n<p id=\"dd6c\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Few teams of this nature exist around the NBA, and those that do all share one common link:<\/p>\n<p id=\"cfb9\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Injuries.<\/p>\n<p id=\"276d\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The Pelicans constantly find themselves plagued by the same issue. Whether it\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/willizi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zion Williamson<\/a><\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/i\/ingrabr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Brandon Ingram<\/strong><\/a>, or <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mccolcj01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">C. J. McCollum<\/a><\/strong>, NOLA\u2019s best players are rarely healthy for more than 50+ games AT MOST. The Pelicans bench isn&#8217;t equipped for such adversity either, and a subpar NBA season is all that\u2019s left. Unfortunately, there\u2019s no reason to believe that any of this will change anytime soon.<\/p>\n<p id=\"22eb\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph wz xa xb lu b xc xd xe xf xg xh xi xj le xk xl xm lj xn xo xp lo xq xr xs xt fp bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Zion and Ingram\u2019s injury history is shaky at best, and McCollum isn\u2019t getting any younger. Trading one of the two former aforementioned names would\u2019ve brought back decent return, but NOLA didn\u2019t do that either. Nonetheless, the Pelicans possess the max potential of anyone mentioned thus far. That alone earns them the 16th spot. Actually reaching this potential is unlikely though, and the play-in seems far more possible. Thus, NOLA will have to settle for right in the middle of the rankings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<div class=\"ab cm\">\n<div class=\"gr bg gs gt gu gv\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ab cm\">\n<div class=\"gr bg gs gt gu gv\">\n<div class=\"xu xv ab gn\">\n<div class=\"xw ab\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Something unique about the NBA is that the teams that finish at the top, are typically rather predictable.
