He played college basketball for Duke and was selected 20th overall in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers. The same night, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings. He played for two years before returning to the Blazers for his last NBA season. Giles has been a free agent since 2021 and has career averages of 5.9 points and 3.8 rebounds. Past injuries and lack of stellar play held Giles back, but now he is ready to contribute on a high level. NBC Sports noted a quote from Giles in an interview earlier this year. Giles claims he is getting his spark back after his hiatus. He added, “I’m confident. I’m healthy, and I feel good again.” The Nets also feel good about what Giles brings to the team.

The Nets Get a Good Backup Center in Giles

Standing at 6-foot-11 and 240 pounds with a 7-foot-3 wingspan, Harry Giles has the physical tools to be an impactful big. The Nets will need his services with their lack of depth at the center position. They have a lock at the starting position with Nic Claxton; however, they need someone to keep a steady presence when Claxton sits. Brooklyn needs Giles to be a solid rim protector and rebounder, but where he can shine is his ability to stretch the floor. Giles shot 34.8% on three-pointers during his last season in the league. His shooting ability could be very useful off the bench or in lineups with the Nets’ slashers and playmakers.

Giles adds veteran presence. His presence gives support to a young Nets team looking to inch toward the top of the Eastern Conference.

Former top prospect and free agent Harry Giles has agreed to a one-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets, Bleacher Report confirms.
