Though it initially appeared Harden would garner league-wide interest, that\u2019s no longer the case. It\u2019s due in large part to Harden diminishing his own value due to \u201cmessy endings\u201d with his former teams. His age and recent postseason struggles are also notable factors. Beck didn\u2019t confirm the teams outright\u2014aside from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/LAC\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>LA Clippers<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who were Harden\u2019s preferred destination. Rather, he indicated that each of these four teams could use Harden as a \u201cwin-now\u201d piece.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI don\u2019t know who the teams are. I\u2019m told there\u2019s 3-4 teams\u2014counting the Clippers\u2014that would have some interest [in Harden]. I wonder if Brooklyn would go down that path again\u2026Miami if they miss out on Dame Lillard\u2026the Bulls are going to be missing Lonzo Ball for yet another season, and that\u2019s a team that doesn\u2019t seem to care about the future at all. They\u2019re all just about trying to tread water and be decent right now\u2026Who knows? Would they throw Harden into the mix with the rest of that group?\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Additionally, <a href=\"https:\/\/marcstein.substack.com\/p\/the-latest-on-the-latest-james-harden?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=392205&amp;post_id=136259944&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">insider Marc Stein previously noted<\/a> that the Sixers have two key objectives in any Harden trade:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe Sixers&#8217; primary team-building objectives, as I understand them, are A) trying to find another star to fortify their Joel Embiid\/Tyrese Maxey core and B) preserving next summer\u2019s pathway to significant salary cap space with whatever they do.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At 34 years old and still a solid star, Harden going to any of these teams could make some sense. However, will they be willing to give up <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2023\/08\/19\/nba-rumors-james-harden-daryl-morey-and-joel-embiid\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">what Daryl Morey wants<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fulfill the 76ers\u2019 goals of a satisfactory return<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>NBA Trade Rumors: Insider Says 3-4 Teams Interested in James Harden<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Los Angeles Clippers<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 76ers might as well try it again with the Clippers. Previous negotiations with the Clips had stalled, leading to the continued mess we\u2019re in today. The Clippers and Sixers could come back to the drawing board soon, possibly aiming for a deal around <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mannte01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Terance Mann<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, multiple future first-rounders and expiring salary fillers (e.g. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/morrima03.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Marcus Morris<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/batumni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Nicolas Batum<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/covinro01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Robert Covington<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). But given their lack of appealing assets, the Sixers may be right to look elsewhere in this situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Brooklyn Nets<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What are the odds that the Brooklyn Nets reunite with Harden? It seems unlikely, but the Nets may have some assets to bring him back if they want to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Nets won\u2019t have to look far to find players whose contracts match with Harden\u2019s $35.6 million salary. They\u2019d have two veteran contracts to offer: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dinwisp01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Spencer Dinwiddie<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ($20.3 million) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/finnedo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Dorian Finney-Smith<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ($13.9 million). The other two players earning a significant payday are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/claxtni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Nic Claxton<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/o\/onealro01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Royce O\u2019Neale<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (both making around $9 million), though it\u2019s unlikely the Nets would want to trade them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brooklyn also has a flurry of picks they could use in a deal, whether it\u2019s the first-rounders they received from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/PHO\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Phoenix Suns<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or their own future firsts in 2028, \u201829 or \u201830. They also have a few second-rounders they could throw into the mix as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the Nets somehow decide to run it back with Harden, they have a relatively easy path to go through. A Brooklyn squad with Harden, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bridgmi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Mikal Bridges<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/simmobe01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Ben Simmons<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would be an intriguing twist to the Nets\u2019 future, but they would at least build on their recent playoff run without <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/duranke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Kevin Durant<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/i\/irvinky01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Kyrie Irving<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Miami Heat<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/MIA\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Miami Heat<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> could reportedly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2023\/08\/24\/nba-rumors-blazers-heat-may-restart-lillard-trade-talks-before-camp\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reopen trade talks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/POR\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Portland Trail Blazers<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lillada01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Damian Lillard<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> soon. However, if those eventually fall through, they could pivot towards Harden to pair him with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/butleji01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jimmy Butler<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/adebaba01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Bam Adebayo<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Heat\u2019s latest offer to Lillard includes <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/herroty01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Tyler Herro<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, expiring veteran contracts, a young player with potential and draft picks\u2014with Herro initially going to a third team. The proposal could easily be altered towards Harden. However, the Heat may not have to include both Herro and, say, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lowryky01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Kyle Lowry<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who is making $29 million next season, in any trade. At the same time, however, trading for a 33-year-old Lillard\u2014who is coming off of a 32-point-per-game season\u2014is still more appealing than trading for a 34-year-old Harden\u2014who left his previous teams in a rougher state. If the Heat had to part with Herro and\/or Lowry, they\u2019d probably prefer it to be for the former.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Above all, Miami must have some sort of a contingency plan if talks with Portland falter. Trading for Harden and filling the starting point guard slot would make more sense than their rumored pursuit of his teammate, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/e\/embiijo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Joel Embiid<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Chicago Bulls<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/CHI\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Chicago Bulls<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> continuing to have point guard problems, they could attempt to put themselves on the right track by trading for Harden. However, it\u2019s worth noting they\u2019d also have the toughest path to get him, unlike the other three teams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stating the obvious, there\u2019s no way that GM Marc Eversley would include <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lavinza01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Zach LaVine<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/derozde01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>DeMar DeRozan<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in any deal for Harden\u2014or any deal, period. They also just inked <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vucevni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Nikola Vucevic<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/news\/nikola-vucevic-bulls-3-year-contract-extension\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">three-year extension<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. And, for obvious reasons, the Sixers wouldn\u2019t be interested in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/balllo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Lonzo Ball<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, nor would the Bulls want to trade him. The 25-year-old confirmed he will miss the entirety of next season recovering from knee surgery. Additionally, by all accounts, he prefers to remain in Chicago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That would leave the Bulls grasping for straws if they wanted to put together a decent package for Harden. They\u2019d have to gut their entire guard depth to even get close to Harden\u2019s salary. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/whiteco01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Coby White<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is making $11 million, while <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/carusal01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Alex Caruso<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dosunay01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Ayo Dosunmu<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/carteje01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jevon Carter<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have salaries hovering around the $6-9 million range. The only way the Bulls make this easier on themselves is by including the injury-riddled Ball and his $20 million contract in any trade for the Sixers star.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In terms of picks, though, the Bulls are in better shape. Chicago owns first-rounders in five of the next seven drafts, as well as a lottery-protected 2024 first via Portland. Still, combining those with a mediocre package of players easily put the Bulls out of the running to pursue Harden.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Last Word<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the Sixers-Harden feud continues to evolve, there\u2019s some new light on a potential market for him beyond the Clippers. Whether Morey and the Sixers brass agree to re-engage on trade talks is anyone\u2019s guess.
