According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/sports\/nba\/miami-heat\/article278437279.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/POR\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Portland Trail Blazers<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/MIA\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Miami Heat<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> could resume talks as soon as the beginning of training camp. This increases speculation among fans and front offices, as everyone tries to determine what a return for Lillard could look like.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>NBA Rumors: Blazers, Heat May Restart Lillard Trade Talks Before Camp<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Background<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After 11 years of \u201cnot running from the grind,\u201d Damian Lillard finally decided it was time to move on and continue his title chase elsewhere. The seven-time All-Star and 2013 Rookie of the Year requested a trade from Portland on July 1. He expressed a desire to go to the Heat. The Blazers seemed willing to honor his request. However, they were also reportedly in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/DZeIZ_9Tc1A?si=wahCNIBoemgPCN0r\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cno rush\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to trade their franchise star.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blazers GM Joe Cronin told The Athletic he believed he \u201cfailed\u201d Lillard. He added that <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2023\/07\/08\/damian-lillard-trade-dilemma\/\" target=\"_self\">finding a suitable trade<\/a> for him <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/4680974\/2023\/07\/10\/trail-blazers-joe-cronin-damian-lillard\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201ctakes months.\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I don\u2019t feel that I did everything I could because I didn\u2019t get done what I needed to get done. In that sense, I do feel like I failed Dame. Our goal was to win now as quickly as possible. If he didn\u2019t feel that way, it was a failure on my end.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dame is obviously a very important person and player to us. What the rest of his career looks like matters to us, and we care about that. At the same time, we have to do what\u2019s best for us. We\u2019ve got to find the right deal and find the right makeup of the team we are going to build forward with.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reports of Miami\u2019s initial offer surfaced a couple of weeks later: a package around <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/herroty01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Tyler Herro<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and three first-round picks, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nba\/heat\/miami-news\/miami-heat-reportedly-have-sent-trade-offer-to-portland-trailblazers-in-deal-centered-around-tyler-herro-and-multiple-first-round-picks#:~:text=Last%20night%2C%20the%20Miami%20Heat,Aaron%20Fentress%20of%20The%20Oregonian.\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Oregonian\u2019s Aaron Fentress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The proposal has since evolved\u2014with some reports suggesting the need for a third team. One of the latest hints at a proposal came from insider Shams Charania a few weeks ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">On <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheRally?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@TheRally<\/a>, the latest surrounding Damian Lillard and the potential offer the Miami Heat have been preparing with 3-to-4 first-round picks: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GjyaYOOEbF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/GjyaYOOEbF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShamsCharania\/status\/1686160439854432256?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">July 31, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Trail Blazers have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dru_star\/status\/1682336828399972352\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">refused to name their exact asking price for Lillard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, leading to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/nba-summer-league-damian-lillard-pascal-siakam-trade-rumors-reactions\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stalemate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that continues today but could end soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Latest on Damian Lillard Trade Talks<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chiang reported that \u201cthe expectation\u201d between both sides is that talks could resume near the start of training camp (Oct. 3). He added:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThat date will at least create some sense of urgency for Portland to find a deal in order to avoid Lillard, arguably the greatest player in Trail Blazers history, coming into camp and making the situation even messier than it already is.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once negotiations pick up, expect the Heat to remain aggressive in their pursuit, aiming to form a trio of Lillard, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/butleji01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jimmy Butler<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/adebaba01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Bam Adebayo<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to increase their title odds in the East.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As for who else is in Miami\u2019s recent trade offer, it\u2019s up to interpretation for now. However, it also leads to some intriguing guesses.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Guessing Miami\u2019s Potential Offer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For starters, Miami would have to send Herro to a team that can reasonably upgrade their two-guard slot and absorb his $27 million salary. As for the rest of the potential players and picks involved, it\u2019s worth noting the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miami\u2019s only true expiring contract is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lowryky01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Kyle Lowry<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ($29.6 million). Fellow veterans <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/loveke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Kevin Love<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/richajo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Josh Richardson<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were re-signed this offseason and cannot be traded until December 15.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The only other young players aside from the 23-year-old Herro are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jovicni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Nikola Jovic<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (20), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/highsha01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Haywood Highsmith<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (26) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/robinor01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Orlando Robinson<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (23). Each of them are making significantly less than Herro, though (roughly $1-2 million). However, Jovic\u2014<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/heatnation.com\/team-news\/erik-spoelstra-offers-exciting-words-about-nikola-jovics-summer-with-serbian-national-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">despite his solid FIBA play with Serbia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014is the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/heatnation.com\/videos\/nikola-jovic-expresses-desire-to-stay-with-miami-heat-amid-damian-lillard-rumors\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">likeliest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of those three to be included in a Lillard trade. He holds plenty of promise as a young, talented, two-way forward, but he\u2019s also expressed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tsaltas46\/status\/1689628134985879552?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a desire to remain in Miami<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fanspo.com\/nba\/teams\/Heat\/16\/draft-picks\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">draft capital<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, following the league\u2019s \u201cSeven Year Rule\u201d, Miami can trade some of their first-round picks in 2024, \u201826, &#8217;27, &#8217;28, &#8217;29 and \u201830. They also have a 2026 second-round pick from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/LAL\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Los Angeles Lakers<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that could be part of the deal.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on these factors, it\u2019s conceivable that Herro, Lowry and Jovic are the names to watch throughout this saga. The three of them could find themselves in more trade rumors soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Last Word<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Portland and Miami expected to restart discussions around Lillard, it puts the star a small step closer to getting what he wants.
