It\u2019s led to speculation as to whether or not the Sixers should run it back or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2023\/08\/14\/why-the-76ers-should-blow-it-up\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blow it up<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The latest rumors from Philadelphia involve an investigation around Harden\u2019s recent comments, what Daryl Morey is looking for in a Harden trade, and several teams considering trading for Embiid.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>NBA Rumors: James Harden, Daryl Morey, and Joel Embiid<\/h2>\n<h3>NBA Launches Inquiry Into James Harden\u2019s Comments<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/38219710\/sources-nba-launches-inquiry-james-harden-situation\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ESPN<\/a>, the NBA launched an inquiry into Harden\u2019s scathing comments about Morey and the 76ers. During an event in China, Harden called Morey a \u201cliar\u201d and vowed that he\u2019d \u201cnever be part of an organization that [Morey is] a part of.\u201d During a recent interview with KHOU 11 sports reporter Jason Bristol, he doubled down, saying <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JBristolKHOU\/status\/1692398680651837631?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it\u2019s too late to repair his relationship with the 76ers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelbourne described the exact details of the league\u2019s investigation:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The league office is believed to be pursuing an understanding of whether Harden was portending a 2023-24 holdout in violation of the league&#8217;s collective bargaining agreement or had been referencing past contract discussions with the organization that might constitute salary cap circumvention, sources said.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was also reported that neither Harden nor the Sixers would violate league guidelines. Instead, the NBA is looking to understand the motivation behind the ten-time All-Star\u2019s admonishment of his team\u2019s president.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Daryl Morey Seeking First-Round Picks in Return for Harden<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Morey is still seeking more first-round picks in return for Harden and is not interested in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/LAC\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Clippers<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> forward <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mannte01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Terance Mann<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/james-hardens-pressure-on-daryl-morey-could-cost-sixers-more-than-1-unhappy-star-022301007.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that Morey is eyeing the Clippers\u2019 future first-rounders in 2027 and 2028. Those picks are available due to the league\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2022\/11\/hoops-rumors-glossary-ted-stepien-rule-4.html#:~:text=The%20%E2%80%9CSeven%20Year%20Rule%E2%80%9D%20prohibits,than%20seven%20years%20in%20advance\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSeven Year Rule,\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which states that teams cannot trade picks more than seven years in advance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goodwill noted that Morey is looking at future draft capital in case the Sixers decide to rebuild. It\u2019s puzzling why he wouldn\u2019t want Mann, who makes sense as a solid role player. Last season, the 26-year-old wing averaged 8.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game on 52\/39\/78 splits. He\u2019s also on a team-friendly contract, making $10.5 million next season and $11.4 million in 2024-25. Mann\u2019s ability to thrive as a bench player or starter adds to his value. He\u2019s someone the Sixers should still consider if trade talks with the Clippers open up again.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Knicks and Heat Eyeing Trade for Joel Embiid<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, Embiid could have several suitors if Morey and the 76ers slam the reset button. But according to <a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/4697797\/2023\/07\/17\/joel-embiid-sixers-anywhere-else-james-harden\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Athletic\u2019s Sam Amick<\/a>, the reigning MVP had no conversations with the team about leaving. Amick added: \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, the organization\u2019s belief remains that Embiid would love to go the way of Dirk Nowitzki or Kobe Bryant and stay with one team for his entire career.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If Embiid\u2019s stance suddenly changes and he decides to jump ship, the Knicks and Heat make sense as potential destinations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miami has yet to make any progress with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/POR\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Portland Trail Blazers<\/a> on a deal for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lillada01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Damian Lillard<\/strong><\/a>. As a result, they could easily pivot to Embiid if they choose to do so.
