The main deal proposed revolves around a three-team trade amongst the Brooklyn Nets, Portland Trailblazers, and Miami Heat. A deal centered around Damian Lillard sends him to the Heat while the Nets would send assets to the Trailblazers, which lands Herro in Brooklyn. Herro is a red-hot scorer the Nets could use to supplement their offense. Read below for more on why this trade makes sense for Brooklyn.

NBA Rumors: Brooklyn Nets Look to Add Scorer Tyler Herro

Herro’s Scoring Bolsters the Net’s Offense

Tyler Herro is one of the best young scorers in the NBA. Last year, he averaged 20.1 points, made three 3-pointers per game, and shot an elite 93.4% for free throws. Herro makes Brooklyn’s offense more potent with his three-point and midrange scoring ability.

One of the best things Herro can offer is versatility in roles. He can come off the bench, start, and can play point guard, shooting guard, or small forward. Furthermore, Herro keeps offensive momentum even when starters are not in the game. He won the Sixth Man of the Year Award at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season. In addition, his threat as a three-level scorer opens the floor for other contributors on Brooklyn’s offense to get involved. Speaking of other Brooklyn players, Herro seems to already have a relationship with one key contributor.

Herro is Acquainted With Ben Simmons

Speculation about players uniting on teams happens often. However, Tyler Herro has already united with a potential Nets teammate, Ben Simmons. Two weeks ago, multiple sources reported that Herro worked out with Simmons in Miami.

Tyler Herro and Ben Simmons working out together 🔥 pic.twitter.com/LGxNQVbnRz

— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) July 13, 2023

First, this is great news for the Brooklyn Nets. If they can successfully trade for Herro, they will not have to worry much about team chemistry, given his acquaintance with Simmons.

Second, these are two players that complement each other well. Herro’s shooting ability mixed with Simmon’s playmaking and slashing would make the Nets dangerous for opposing defenses. Furthermore, Herro’s presence takes the pressure off Brooklyn’s two-way players. Players like Simmons, Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and Nic Claxton can focus more on defense with Herro there to carry the offensive load. However, as easy as it is for Herro to make things easier for Brooklyn’s defense, it is possible that he could throw it off.

Herro’s Playing Time Could Take Away From Impact Defenders

Although Tyler Herro thrives in many roles, the fact remains that he would take minutes away from important Brooklyn role players. For example, take Dorian Finney-Smith. Finney-Smith started many games for the Nets after being traded from the Dallas Mavericks. His shooting ability helps the Nets stretch the floor at the power forward position. More importantly, he is a reliable and versatile defender. Last season, Dorian ranked 16th among all NBA power forwards in ESPN’s defensive plus-minus stat. If his minutes reduce from Herro’s arrival, the Net’s defense could weaken. Therefore, it is possible that minutes from players other than Finney-Smith could be taken. He might also provide greater defensive effort with fewer minutes, which could be positive for the Nets.

Last Word: A Brooklyn Nets Tyler Herro Trade is Imminent

Trade rumors can gain gravity fast in the NBA. Proposals for Damian Lillard trades continue to thrive. News of his departure could drop any day. This increases the likelihood of Herro arriving in Brooklyn.
