Known for his interesting insight and humor, Van Gundy is no longer a commentator for ESPN\/ABC.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Van Gundy spent 16 years at the network, and the NBA fan will find a new voice to turn to without Van Gundy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jeff&#8217;s Background\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Van Gundy has a storied past in coaching. Jeff began\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">as an assistant<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0at Rutgers and Providence before becoming an assistant with the NY Knicks. In 1996, he established himself as the head coach for the\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">NY Knicks and coached there for seven seasons<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. He then went to Houston where he coached for four seasons\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">before getting fired in 2006-2007<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">After being fired, he became a commentator with\u00a0<\/span>Mark Jackson<strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0He performed broadcasting with Jackson and Hall of Fame Play-by-Play announcer\u00a0<\/span>Mike Breen <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">for the next 16 seasons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Broadcasting Achievements\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Van Gundy broadcasted 100 NBA Final games, 16 NBA Finals, and countless playoff games. He was well-known across the broadcast landscape. More specifically, sources described Van Gundy\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/30\/jeff-van-gundy-let-go-amid-espns-big-name-layoffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">as the glue that kept the broadcasting team<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0together. Van Gundy will be synonymous with an excellent broadcasting team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Why did ESPN Fire Van Gundy?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The reports just came out, so a little hard to tell why Van Gundy was fired. However, ESPN is trying to save more money and let go of 2o other members of the broadcasting team to save\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">more money<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Amongst other talent being let go,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/30\/espn-laying-off-top-talent-to-save-millions\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jalen Rose<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0is in the mix of those let go as well. On a positive note, all the Talent let go will have their contracts fully paid before they exit ESPN.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">ESPN believes these short-term cuts were necessary. The t<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">eam at ESPN<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0commentated that these layoffs will, &#8220;help (ESPN) reach its financial targets and ensure future growth.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Van Gundy and Rose were two of the top analysts and commentators for ESPN, so it will be interesting to see who replaces them in the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Who will Replace Van Gundy?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Since Van Gundy is gone from ESPN, there is a spot for another individual from Talent to fill in.
