Despite holding the 6th and 11th overall picks this year, reports say they\u2019re <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hoopshype.com\/lists\/2023-nba-mock-draft-trade-talks-dereck-lively-bilal-coulibaly-brandin-podziemski\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">looking to trade into the top-five<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, looking to select one promising young prospect to fit with their young core on the rise.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>NBA Draft Rumors: Orlando Magic Looking to Trade into Top 5<\/h2>\n<h3>Current Young Core<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Magic\u2019s recent draft day success is well-documented, selecting franchise cornerstone <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/banchpa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Paolo Banchero<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the top pick last year and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/suggsja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jalen Suggs<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (5th) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wagnefr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Franz Wagner<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (8th) in 2021. They also have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/anthoco01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Cole Anthony<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, selected 15th overall in 2020, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/i\/isaacjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jonathan Isaac<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who they drafted at #6 in 2017. Various trades, including moving on from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gordoaa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Aaron Gordon<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vucevni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Nikola Vucevic<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, netted them <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/fultzma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Markelle Fultz<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cartewe01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Wendell Carter Jr.<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, two mainstays in the starting lineup. And then there&#8217;s fan-favorite <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bolbo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Bol Bol<\/b><\/a><b>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a 7-foot-2 center who has earned rotational minutes with Orlando.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With that much potential comes the need for adequate development. That&#8217;s why the Magic are going for one top-five player instead of two in the lottery. Here are three potential draft targets if the Magic manage to move up.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Target #1: Amen Thompson<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though mock drafts have Orlando taking Ausar Thompson at #6, his twin brother, Amen, could be the better option. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2023\/05\/08\/amen-thompson-nba-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An athletic facilitator and a standout defender<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Amen would serve a \u201cpoint-forward\u201d role with the Magic if drafted, an advantage given his 6-foot-7, 209-pound frame. With the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/HOU\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Houston Rockets<\/b><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/4533217\/2023\/05\/23\/rockets-draft-fourth-pick-free-agency\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">considering trading their 4th overall pick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to fill needs of playmaking, shooting and defense, Amen, considered to be the consensus fourth overall pick, would increase the Magic\u2019s defensive rating (113.7 this season) and playmaking abilities (23.2 APG; assist percentage of 57.4).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Target #2: Cameron Whitmore<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Villanova\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/cam-whitmore-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Cameron Whitmore<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> appears <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2023\/05\/19\/cam-whitmore-2023-nba-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">likely to be selected in the 5-7 range<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the 2023 Draft. Though the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/DET\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Detroit Pistons<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are likely reluctant to trade one spot back from their fifth overall pick, Whitmore would add to Orlando\u2019s wing depth while developing into a solid rotational player. After a season hampered with injuries, Whitmore is proving his worth as an immediate contributor, as evidenced by a solid combine where he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportswashington.com\/nba\/washington-wizards\/nba-draft-combine-whitmore-black-help-cause\/392602\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recorded a 40.5-inch vertical<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/WX7qSCyCMYM\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">displayed his shooting touch during a Pro Day workout<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Even if Orlando stays put at #6, the Wildcat wing would be an ideal draft target for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Target #3: Scoot Henderson<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If Orlando convinces the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/POR\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Portland Trail Blazers<\/strong><\/a> to swap places for the third pick, then they must target Scoot Henderson. Though they already have three young point guards, the Ignite prospect still deserves consideration.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/10077027-2023-nba-mock-draft-3-trade-ideas-to-shake-up-the-lottery\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bleacher Report\u2019s Zach Buckley proposed a trade<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that would send veteran guard <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harriga01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Gary Harris<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Carter Jr., and the 6th and 11th picks to the Blazers for the 3rd pick and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/simonan01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Anfernee Simons<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, arguing that \u201cthe hyper-explosive Henderson has a ceiling that sits several stories above the rest.\u201d It would effectively provide Orlando with an ideal complement to Banchero while adding a breakout shooting guard in Simons. Magic fans can dream about trading into the top-three, but if they\u2019re successful, then Scoot should be their guy.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The Last Word on the Orlando Magic<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s no doubt that something special is happening in Orlando. A move into the top-five would greatly increase the team&#8217;s chances at returning to the playoffs sooner rather than later.
