My beloved Denver Nuggets are in their first NBA Finals, and the San Antonio Spurs won the draft rights to Victor Wembanyama. With this big development, it&#8217;s time for another NBA mock Draft.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1>Rex Foster&#8217;s NBA Mock Draft 3.0 &#8211; Post Lottery<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A quick note about the Nuggets &#8211; how awesome is it to see this team finally reach their full potential? Backlashed with an ACL tear, back injuries, small market bias, player frustration, trade rumors, racism, and countless times being doubted in the media, this Nuggets squad has fought through hell to get to where they are now. I want to give credit to coach Michael Malone. Nobody in this league wants to win more than him. You can tell that he just <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cares <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more than any other coach. He is the team&#8217;s ultimate teacher (look at MPJ&#8217;s defensive strides!) and leader. He has seen it all and won&#8217;t give up until he&#8217;s covered in champagne.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have implemented a new twist for the third <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2023\/05\/11\/rex-fosters-2023-nba-mock-draft-2-0\/\" target=\"_self\">edition<\/a> of my <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2023\/04\/16\/rex-fosters-2023-nba-mock-draft-1-0\/\" target=\"_self\">mock draft series<\/a>. For rebuilding teams, I listed their core of young players. For teams with a more content roster, I listed their starting lineup, and just for fun, I included little tidbits for other teams. Additionally, with prospect comparisons, I have included a little taste of every team&#8217;s future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I hope you enjoy it!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>NBA Mock Draft &#8211; The Lottery: Top 5<\/h2>\n<h3><b>1. San Antonio Spurs<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Victor Wembanyama | 7-4 Center | 19 years old | France<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagine: <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7\u20194 <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/duranke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Durant<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/goberru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rudy Gobert\u2019s<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shot blocking<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Core: <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Victor Wembanyama, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vassede01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Devin Vassell<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/johnske04.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keldon Johnson<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sochaje01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeremy Sochan<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jonestr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tre Jones<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Previously in my second mock draft, I claimed Detroit would be the best pairing for Wembanyama\u2019s sake. I would like to take that statement back. San Antonio couldn\u2019t be a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">better <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fit for Wembanyama. Gregg Popovich gets the opportunity to coach the greatest prospect since <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LeBron James<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and has a pretty decent track record for developing talent (I don&#8217;t know, ask <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/duncati01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tim Duncan<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/leonaka01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kawhi Leonard<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 2nd rounder <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/ginobma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manu Ginobili<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/parketo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tony Parker<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/murrade01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dejounte Murray<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is doing just well too). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sweet thing about Wemby being a Spur is that he was the missing piece for a rebuilding franchise. Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, and Jeremy Sochan were all quality draft selections in the post-Kawhi era, but not the monumental player teams orbit around. Wembanyama is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">exact piece San Antonio needed, and now they finally have their guy. (P.S. I wouldn\u2019t be shocked if the Spurs make the playoffs in two years. It would be fun for them to take on a gigantic salary like <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/poolejo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Poole<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or even <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bealbr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bradley Beal<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>2. Charlotte Hornets<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scoot Henderson | 6-2 Guard | 19 years old | G-League Ignite<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagine: <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2011 <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rosede01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Derrick Rose<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Core: <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scoot Henderson,<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/ballla01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LaMelo Ball<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/washipj01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">P.J Washington<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/willima07.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Williams<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/richani01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Richards<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charlotte has some decisions to make. The Hornets could (A) select the prospect who fits the team\u2019s roster dynamic best (Brandon Miller), (B) shop this pick for a team willing to trade for Scoot Henderson (hello Washington and Utah) and gain a win-now player, or (C) take the best player available (Scoot Henderson). Personally, I would <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">love <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to watch a backcourt of Scoot Henderson and LaMelo Ball. The scoring and playmaking would just be off the charts. If the fit turns sour, no problem, trade Scoot (or, God knows, probably LaMelo) for a boatload of assets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>3. Portland Trail Blazers<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brandon Miller | 6-9 Wing | 20 years old | Alabama<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagine: <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Slightly lengthier <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/georgpa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul George<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Potential Trade Partners: <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago, Toronto, LA Clippers<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Portland is currently shopping their 3rd overall selection to bolster their roster around <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lillada01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Damian Lillard<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If Portland finds no rightful suitors, then Brandon Miller should be an easy pick. Miller would complement the promising, young backcourt of Simons and Sharpe relatively well with an immaculate amount of shot-making.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>4. Houston Rockets<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amen Thompson | 6-7 Guard | 20 years old | Overtime Elite<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagine: <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taller <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/moranja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ja Morant<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (with better defense and worse shooting)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Core: <\/span><\/i><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/greenja05.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jalen Green<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Amen Thompson, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sengual01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alperen Sengun<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/e\/easonta01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Tari Eason<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/smithja05.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jabari Smith<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a team full of hungry shot-makers, Thompson could provide what he\u2019s best at &#8211; playmaking. Arguably the most explosive player in the draft, Thompson also is a freak athlete &#8211; which gives him more high defensive upside. If Thompson buys in (and that\u2019s a big if), he could turn Houston\u2019s rebuilding ship in the right direction. I also love his pairing with Ime Udoka, a defensive-minded, gritty coach.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>5. Detroit Pistons<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taylor Hendricks | 6-9 Forward | 19 years old | UCF<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagine: <\/span><\/i><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcdanja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaden McDaniels<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Core: <\/span><\/i><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cunnica01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cade Cunningham<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/i\/iveyja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaden Ivey<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Taylor Hendricks, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wisemja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">James Wiseman<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/durenja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jalen Duren<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Out of the remaining forwards on the board, I tend to favor Hendricks because of his balance. A consistent three-point shooter at the college level while also a top defender in his draft class. While Hendricks doesn\u2019t have the upside of Whitmore or Walker, Detroit should make the safe selection here. Cunningham, Ivey, Hendricks, and Duren is a rock solid young core! Now, Cunningham needs to make the leap to validate that he\u2019s the man in Detroit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>NBA Mock Draft &#8211; The Lottery: 6-14<\/h2>\n<h3><b>6. Orlando Magic<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gradey Dick | 6-6 Guard | 19 years old | Kansas<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagine: <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/monkma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Malik Monk<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bogdabo02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bojan Bogdanovic<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had a kid<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Core: <\/span><\/i><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/banchpa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paolo Banchero<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wagnefr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Franz Wagner<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/fultzma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Markelle Fultz<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Gradey Dick, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cartewe01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wendell Carter Jr<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Orlando could gamble on a high-upside player here, or they can take the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">right <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">player. Dick is the perfect player for Orlando with his elite shot-making ability to pair alongside Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. It\u2019s surprising to see that other mocks have Orlando play the patient game and take Dick at 11. Indiana, Washington, Utah, and Dallas are all very realistic landing spots for Dick. Dear Orlando &#8211; don\u2019t fool around, and please take your guy when you have the chance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>7. Indiana Pacers<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jarace Walker | 6-8 Forward | 19 years old | Houston<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagine: <\/span><\/i><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gordoaa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Gordon<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Core: <\/span><\/i><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/halibty01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyrese Haliburton<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mathube01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bennedict Mathurin<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/turnemy01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Myles Turner<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Jarace Walker, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/n\/nesmiaa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Aaron Nesmith<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If I were Indiana, I would value the defensive-minded Walker over the offensive upside of Whitmore. The glaring hole in Indiana\u2019s successful rebuild has been a dependable and versatile perimeter defender. Walker does just that. He will be assigned to the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tatumja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jayson Tatums<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and even <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/antetgi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Giannis Antetokunmpos<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the world. Additionally, Walker could be a sneaky good pick &amp; roll duo with Tyrese Haliburton and can be used as a small-ball center.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>8. Washington Wizards<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anthony Black | 6-7 Guard | 19 years old | Arkansas<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagine: <\/span><\/i><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/giddejo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Giddey<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (with more length and a pinch more burst)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Starting 5: <\/span><\/i><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/morrimo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Monte Morris<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bealbr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bradley Beal<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kuzmaky01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Kuzma<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/porzikr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kristaps Porzingis<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gaffoda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daniel Gafford<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I am pretty stuck with this Wizards pick. Whitmore is the best player available and Ausar Thompson isn\u2019t that close behind. But at the same time, Anthony Black is right up there talent-wise with Whitmore and Thompson. From Washington\u2019s standpoint, they are completely stuck in the middle between contention and rebuilding. They have been for about four years now. Regardless, this is the right pick. Black has an A+ size, which bodes well for defense while also having a pure feel for playmaking.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*player option this offseason<\/span><\/h5>\n<h3><b>9. He shot 48% from the field, 40% from three-point range, and 83% from the line at Ohio State. The scoring potential is obviously there with Sensabaugh, but his defense is non-existent. Still, this is good value for the Pacers, who already drafted a defensive forward in Jarace Walker earlier.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>27. Cissoko really thrived defensively for G-League Ignite last season with LaMelo. Maybe he could do the same for a young backcourt in need of defensive prowess.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>28. All this sounds fantastic, but where Rupert really needs to develop is on the offensive end. A few years in the G-League would really polish Rupert into an NBA role player.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>29.
