Even with\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">LeBron James<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0out with a foot injury, the Lakers have been playing better as a unit and have much more roster depth than before. This article will analyze why their current pieces are a better fit and provide expectations for what previously seemed a lost season.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Here Come the Los Angeles Lakers<\/h2>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The West Should Fear the Revamped Los Angeles Lakers<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Every significant piece the Lakers acquired fits a particular need that the Lakers were previously missing.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Lakers&#8217; Trade Deadline Analysis: Guards<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/russeda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">D&#8217;Angelo Russell<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0has been playing well this season, giving the Lakers another offensive dimension. He&#8217;s shown that he can be relied on as a scorer and distributor. Russell is averaging close to 18 points and six assists on the season. LeBron has a proven track record of performing well with guards, most notably\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wadedw01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dwayne Wade<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/i\/irvinky01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Kyrie Irving<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Russell isn&#8217;t at that level, but having another playmaker to space the floor is something Los Angeles was missing. James is also 38 years old and currently injured; the more possessions Russell can positively impact, particularly in the regular season, the better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/beaslma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Malik Beasley<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0fills the void that has been missing since sharp-shooter\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/caldwke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Kentavious Caldwell-Pope<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8216;s departure. Beasley hovers around 38% from three in his career. Like Russell, he allows the Lakers to space the floor, allowing their stars,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/davisan02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Anthony Davis<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and LeBron, to operate. LeBron&#8217;s had an apparent blueprint for successful rosters he&#8217;s been on throughout his career, and one of the main ingredients has always been a consistent three-point shooter. So Beasley fits in extremely nicely here so far.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Lakers&#8217; Trade Deadline Analysis: Forwards<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vandeja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jarred Vanderbilt<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0is a 6&#8217;8&#8243;, versatile defender that can hold his own when switched onto quicker guards. The Lakers have plenty of offensive firepower on their team in LeBron, Davis, and Russell. Vanderbilt plays a pivotal role on this team as someone who doesn&#8217;t demand the ball. He&#8217;s a great role player who can defend and provide energy. The previous Laker&#8217;s roster lacked in that department.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hachiru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Rui Hachimura<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0is a former ninth-overall draft pick that the Lakers acquired without giving up many assets. Like Vanderbilt, Rui is another 6&#8217;8&#8243; player that gives the Lakers more size and depth on their bench. He still needs to improve his overall shooting and playmaking skills. However, the move gives the Lakers another reliable bench option they didn&#8217;t have before.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Expectations Going Forward<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The West has been inconsistent as of late. Most of the teams ahead of the Lakers in the playoff standings have been going through some adversity lately.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2023\/03\/03\/four-responses-to-recent-nikola-jokic-criticism\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Denver Nuggets recently lost four games<\/a><\/strong> in a row and don&#8217;t seem as invincible as they once were. <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/duranke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Kevin Durant<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0is still recovering from his ankle injury, and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/paulch01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chris Paul<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0has to be labeled somewhat injury-prone for the Phoenix Suns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Memphis Grizzlies have been dealing with multiple distractions, between\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/paulch01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ja Morant<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8216;s off-court antics,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/adamsst01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Steven Adams<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0being out for multiple weeks with a knee injury, and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/clarkbr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Brandon Clarke<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0suffering a season-ending Achilles injury.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The defending champion Golden State Warriors are in disarray and still can&#8217;t figure out how to win on the road for whatever reason. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The new-look Dallas Mavericks just had a three-game losing streak and don&#8217;t have enough depth or defensive pieces surrounding\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Luka Don\u010di\u0107<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and Kyrie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Don&#8217;t count out this Lakers team just yet this season. Sure, they&#8217;re hovering around .500, but they&#8217;ve been as hot as any team in the Western Conference lately.
