Utah received a boatload of players and draft picks in return. The Jazz still have a number of veterans on their team, however, so they may explore more trades to fully rebuild.

Utah Jazz Trade Ideas for Remaining Veterans

Trading Two Veterans

Phoenix Suns receive Mike Conley and Rudy Gay.

Utah Jazz receive Jae Crowder, Landry Shamet, Dario Saric, and the Suns’ 2023 first-round pick.

It’s no secret that the Phoenix Suns are chasing a title. They fell short the last two seasons and have to continue to push forward during Chris Paul‘s window.

The injury was a concern for Paul in the playoffs last season. The Suns did not have sufficient point guard depth which completely altered their play with Paul off the court. Enter Conley. He’s an ideal veteran to have off the bench and having a rotation between him and Paul will do wonders for the Suns’ offense. Gay is a solid veteran forward who can lighten the loss of Crowder.

Utah gets three players here. Shamet can develop into a future piece on the team, whereas Crowder and Saric are veterans on expiring contracts. This keeps cap space open for the Jazz next summer, but they can also trade the players in the future. Crowder will be a hot commodity for contenders come the trade deadline. Utah, of course, secures another first-round pick.

Adding Youth

Dallas Mavericks receive Jordan Clarkson.

Utah Jazz receive Dwight Powell, and Josh Green, two Mavericks’ second-round picks.

The Mavericks need backcourt depth. This hasn’t been properly addressed since Jalen Brunson left and joined the New York Knicks. Clarkson is exactly what the team needs. He brings scoring prowess for when players such as Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie aren’t on the floor. Dallas is on the brink of contention so this is a move that must be made.

First off, the Jazz brings in Powell. He helps add depth alongside rookie Walker Kessler. With that being said, Powell also becomes a trade chip at the trade deadline. Green is a former first-round pick who never really got the time to develop in Dallas. There should be plenty of that in Utah. Green is still young and shows “three-and-d” promise. Of course, the Jazz adds more draft capital as well.

Utah Jazz Continue to Trade for Assets

Charlotte Hornets receive Bojan Bogdanovic.

Utah Jazz receive Mason Plumlee and James Bouknight.

The Hornets need to add to the forward position. Bogdanovic is a real offensive weapon and the Hornets are an offensively-focused team. If their goal is to make the playoffs as soon as next season, this is a move to be made. There’s a legitimate possibility that Bogdanovic can average 20+ points per game alongside LaMelo Ball.

Like the Powell acquisition before, Plumlee adds to the center depth and provides help to the young Kessler. Bouknight was a lottery pick not long ago. He rarely saw the floor in Charlotte, but Utah will open up time for his development.

It’s not a stretch to say that the Utah Jazz are moving into a full rebuild.
