Now, of course, it hasn’t been said that Beverley is necessarily available after arriving in Utah in the Rudy Gobert trade. With that being said, it seems as if the Jazz are nearing a rebuild, especially if a Donovan Mitchell trade is in the cards. If that were the case, a veteran like Beverley could become available.

Patrick Beverley Is an Ideal Fit for the Dallas Mavericks

Trade Ideas

Beverley is set to make $13 million this season, and it’s the last year left on the deal. Unless Dallas were to get another team involved, they’d have to be giving up a similar contract. In addition, Utah knows they have pieces that contenders will want. Due to this, they’ll be looking for additional assets. It’s unlikely any team offers a first-round pick for a deal involving Beverley, so the Mavericks can throw in a second-round pick or two.

One player that comes to mind in a potential deal is Dwight Powell. For starters, the Jazz have a weak frontcourt with Gobert’s departure and Hassan Whiteside not re-signing. Powell can temporarily beef up that area alongside rookie Walker Kessler. Dallas added Christian Wood through trade and then signed JaVale McGee, so they’re solid up front.

Another option would be Davis Bertans. This, however, is unlikely. Bertans gets paid more than Beverley and has multiple years left on his deal. Considering the Jazz are trending towards a rebuild, acquiring Bertans isn’t the best option.

Tim Hardaway Jr. is another potential option but, like Bertans, has multiple years left on his deal. Dallas could also use a strong scorer like Hardaway Jr. this season.

What Beverley Brings

First off, Dallas showed true defensive tenacity and grit last season. That was on full display in the playoffs, too, versus the Jazz and Phoenix Suns. Two premier defenders are Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock. They are amongst the top perimeter defenders in the league, and adding Beverley will only improve this defense. This would instantly make the Mavericks’ perimeter defense nearly impenetrable.

Then, of course, Dallas lost Jalen Brunson to the New York Knicks. Beverley is not nearly as capable as Brunson on the offensive end, but he can still contribute. He’s shown an ability to be a decent ball handler as well as a facilitator. In addition, Beverley is a solid three-point shooter.

Dallas has an MVP candidate in Luka Doncic and another great ball handler in Spencer Dinwiddie. Both, of course, are projected starters. This means that the Mavericks will need someone to lead the unit off the bench. Beverley and Hardaway Jr. present a pretty solid bench backcourt.

The Mavericks still remain relatively inexperienced. Players like Doncic and Finney-Smith, who are two cornerstones, made their first true playoff run last season. Wood will be a major factor as well, but has never played in the playoffs.

Beverley, of course, carries plenty of experience and, although seemingly hot-headed at times, can also provide some leadership.

Patrick Beverley of the Utah Jazz is a perfect fit for the Dallas Mavericks.
