Who won the deal?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Trade Grades: Atlanta Hawks Trade Kevin Huerter to Sacramento<\/h2>\n<h3><b>Terms of the Deal<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wojespn\/status\/1542918465098584066\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sacramento receives<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Kevin Huerter<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(wing)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atlanta receives: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holidju01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Justin Holiday<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (wing), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harklma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Maurice Harkless<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (forward), 2024 lottery-protected first-round pick. The pick is top-12 protected in 2025, and top-10 protected in 2026. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChrisKirschner\/status\/1542919380933218311\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pick will convert<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to two second-round selections in 2026 if it isn\u2019t conveyed before then.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Sacramento Kings Grade: B-<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sacramento signed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/monkma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Malik Monk<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the first day of free agency, and now GM Monte McNair adds Huerter to their guard\/wing rotation. Huerter is a solid scorer and averages 11.4 points per game for his career while shooting 37.9% from three. He\u2019s the best shooter on this roster with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hieldbu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Buddy Hield<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Indiana, and could be the best shooter by far if Barnes is traded. Sacramento just acquired a 24-year-old signed through 2025-26, and sent out veterans on expiring deals. This type of move is how lottery teams slowly build into playoff teams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Huerter does come with question marks. Namely, who is going to play defense for this team? Holiday and Harkless add toughness on the perimeter despite offensive limitations. The Kings front office is making it difficult for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/05\/12\/what-kings-fans-should-expect-from-new-head-coach-mike-brown\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new head coach Mike Brown<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to improve last season\u2019s defense, which finished <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cleaningtheglass.com\/stats\/league\/summary\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">27th out of 30 teams<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holmeri01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Richaun Holmes<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a solid defensive center but is buried behind <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sabondo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Domantas Sabonis<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/06\/24\/2022-nba-draft-recap\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lottery pick<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/murrake02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Keegan Murray<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> should help, but will get taken advantage of as a rookie. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mitchda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Davion Mitchell<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> plays with great effort and intensity, but he\u2019s a small guard without extraordinary athleticism. The Kings could target a young defender like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/willigr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Grant Williams<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/thybuma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Matisse Thybulle<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcdanja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jaden McDaniels<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/avdijde01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Deni Avdija<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in a Barnes trade. Their defensive personnel hasn&#8217;t improved. A full season of Sabonis at center instead of Holmes probably makes them worse defensively. The Kings need to make another move.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With that in mind, Sacramento did well to protect their pick. These protections guarantee Sacramento will never send Atlanta a pick in the top 10. Huerter\u2019s youth makes giving up that asset acceptable.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Atlanta Hawks Grade: B+<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atlanta and team president Travis Schlenk have to be happy with this move. They cleared the logjam in their backcourt after <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/06\/30\/san-antonio-trades-murray-to-atlanta\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trading for<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/murrade01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Dejounte Murray<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Huerter wasn\u2019t going to start over Murray or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/huntede01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>De\u2019Andre Hunter<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Atlanta already has a scoring wing overqualified to come off the bench in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bogdabo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Bogdan Bogdanovi\u0107<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Head coach Nate McMillan can give Harkless minutes as a small-ball power forward when they need defense and energy. He\u2019s also familiar with Holiday from their time together with the Indiana Pacers. Holiday gives Atlanta another rugged perimeter defender as well as a veteran leader who won a championship with Golden State in 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atlanta sent out significant draft capital in the deal for Murray, and acquiring Sacramento\u2019s pick gives them an additional asset to use themselves or send out in a trade in the future. Replacing Huerter\u2019s long-term contract with two expiring deals gives Atlanta additional financial freedom. This move pairs well with the Murray acquisition.
