This list includes free-agent fits for teams destined for the lottery as well as the NBA Finals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please note that not all of these players will become free agents this offseason. A \u201cTO\u201d by a player\u2019s name means there\u2019s a \u201cteam option\u201d on the player\u2019s contract for the 2022-2023 season, so the team can choose to keep the player for one more year. A \u201cPO\u201d by a player\u2019s name means there\u2019s a \u201cplayer option,\u201d so that player can decide to either return to his team for another season or become a free agent this offseason. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tuckepj01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>P.J. Tucker<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, for example, has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShamsCharania\/status\/1539007369656557570\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">already opted out<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of his contract to become a free agent this summer.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>A Quick Guide to NBA Free Agency<\/h2>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All contract information is taken from <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotrac.com\/nba\/free-agents\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spotrac<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><b>Superstars in Free Agency<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The superstar-caliber players who could be free agents include <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hardeja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>James Harden<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (PO), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bealbr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Bradley Beal<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (PO), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/i\/irvinky01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Kyrie Irving<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (PO), and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lavinza01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Zach LaVine<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. All four are spectacular scoring guards with question marks. Harden scored just 21 points per game, his lowest average since coming off the bench in Oklahoma City. Beal just posted a career-low in three-point shooting. Irving has played in 45% of Brooklyn\u2019s regular-season games the past three seasons. LaVine re-injured his left knee late this season after tearing the ACL in that knee in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, these All-Star caliber performers have proven enough that all should get deals at or near their maximum annual salary. It\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/06\/20\/realistic-kyrie-irving-trade-destinations\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">impossible to predict<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> what <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/06\/21\/clippers-should-pursue-kyrie-irving\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Irving will want<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but expect the others to re-sign with their teams. If they\u2019re unhappy, they could look to follow the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/georgpa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Paul George<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> model. He re-signed with Oklahoma City in the summer of 2018, then requested (and received) a trade to the Clippers the very next year when <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/leonaka01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Kawhi Leonard<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> went to LA. That will be an option for these players, especially <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/06\/12\/realistic-bradley-beal-trade-destinations\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (who has a limited injury history) and LaVine (who just turned 27 in March).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Restricted Free Agents<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Restricted free agents are young players whose rookie contracts are ending. These players\u2019 previous teams can keep them even if they sign an offer with a new team. The previous team just has to offer a contract with the same terms as the new team\u2019s offer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Suns have had <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/05\/18\/potential-deandre-ayton-landing-spots\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">well-documented frustrations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/aytonde01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>DeAndre Ayton<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the wake of their second-round playoff exit, and there are rumors that Charlotte is hesitant to give <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bridgmi02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Miles Bridges<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/basketball.realgm.com\/wiretap\/267442\/Hornets-Hesitant-To-Match-Max-Offer-Sheet-On-Miles-Bridges\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">max offer sheet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Detroit, San Antonio and Indiana are teams with the money to offer large contracts and players at similar ages. Phoenix and Charlotte would push for a sign-and-trade to recoup assets; if they decide not to retain Ayton and Bridges, respectively. The new team would ensure their contract offer won\u2019t be matched by agreeing to a sign-and-trade.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trades sending Bridges to Atlanta (for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/collijo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>John Collins<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a young player), Memphis (for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brookdi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Dillon Brooks<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/willizi02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Ziaire Williams<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), Miami (for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/herroty01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Tyler Herro<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/robindu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Duncan Robinson<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), or Sacramento (for the fourth pick and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/barneha02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Harrison Barnes<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) could make sense if Charlotte finds any of those returns appealing. Bridges fits any team as a young, 6\u20196\u201d shot creator who averaged an efficient 20 points per game last season. San Antonio and Indiana have starting-level centers to send in an Ayton deal, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/turnemy01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Myles Turner<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> should inspire intrigue in Phoenix.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sextoco01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Collin Sexton<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tore his MCL, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/garlada01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Darius Garland<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s emergence makes him seem more like a luxury than a necessity for Cleveland. There are rumors that the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.netsdaily.com\/2022\/6\/19\/23174611\/feigen-houston-rockets-interested-in-nic-claxton-believe-nets-wont-match-mle-offer\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nets may not want to offer<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/claxtni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Nic Claxton<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a substantial contract. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/divindo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Donte DiVincienzo<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/simonan01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Anfernee Simons<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> likely won\u2019t change teams, but twins <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/martico01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Cody Martin<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/martica02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Caleb Martin<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can play for any squad as young reserve wings who can shoot and defend.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Available Veteran Defenders<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a number of strong veteran defenders available in free agency this season. P.J. Tucker was mentioned above, and he\u2019s joined by new champion <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/paytoga02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Gary Payton II<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on this list as players with title rings. Tucker is one of the best defenders of wing scorers in the league, and the Sixers are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/sixers\/sixers-pj-tucker-nba-draft-free-agency-20220621.html?utm_source=t.co&amp;utm_campaign=edit_social_share_twitter_traffic&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_content=&amp;utm_term=&amp;int_promo=\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">already rumored to have an interest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Payton can both create steals and lock down opposing scorers one-on-one, and did well against <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jaylen Brown<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tatumja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jayson Tatum<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at moments in the Finals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like Tucker and Payton, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harriga01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Gary Harris<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/batumni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Nicolas Batum<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wojespn\/status\/1539239962968739849\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">confirmed free agent<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who also excels as a help defender) have proven they can guard top perimeter players one-on-one in the playoffs. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/anderky01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Kyle Anderson<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> supplements tough defense with ball-handling and buckets against mismatches. Lower-level candidates include point guard defenders <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wrighde01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Delon Wright<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/carteje01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jevon Carter<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, limited shooters like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownbr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Bruce Brown<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jonesde02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Derrick Jones Jr.<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and guys who rejoined the NBA last season in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/houseda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Danuel House Jr.<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reedda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Davon Reed<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Philadelphia is a good team with limited defenders around <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/e\/embiijo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Joel Embiid<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, especially after <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/greenda02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Danny Green<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tore his ACL. Expect them to sign one or two names from this list to chase after perimeter scorers. Portland could have room to sign one of these players after waiving <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bledser01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Eric Bledsoe<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Sacramento could sign someone to aid their playoff push under Mike Brown.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Point Guards in Free Agency<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is mostly an excuse to talk about <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brunsja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jalen Brunson<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Brunson, who turns 26 on August 31, proved his bruising drives, patient postups, and high-arching floaters were efficient playoff offense. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2022\/06\/21\/the-new-york-knicks-have-a-point-guard-problem\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knicks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have long been rumored as a destination for Brunson, and the Mavericks will surely want to keep him in Dallas long-term. Detroit and Brunson have been linked as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brunson\u2019s max contract <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotrac.com\/research\/nba\/a-deep-dive-into-jalen-brunsons-contract-options-1408\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with Dallas or another team<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> starts in excess of $30 million in the first year; Brunson will surely be able to command at least $20 million in the first year of his next deal after leading Dallas to a 2-1 series lead against Utah without <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Luka Don\u010di\u0107<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rubiori01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Ricky Rubio<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will attempt a comeback from a torn ACL, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jonesty01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Tyus Jones<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a (very good) backup, but Brunson is the prize of this group.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Bench Scorers in Free Agency<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are solid options for teams lacking scoring punch off the bench like Boston, Miami, Toronto, Cleveland, and Phoenix. If <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/warretj01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>T.J.
